Okay, with the new rules I know that powers are activated as a CLOSE or RANGE attack. My question is, does this mean that close combat and range combat attacks no longer exist? I’m asking that that would ruin a lot of older figures. For example:
AOU 44 Giant-Man: STAND TALL NEXT TO HULK AND THOR: If another friendly character with the Avengers keyword and a damage value of 4 or more hits an opposing character, Giant-Man may make a close combat attack as a free action this turn.
DP 56 T-Ray: DEADPOOL'S ARCHNEMESIS: T-Ray can use Phasing/Teleport. When he does, you may instead place him adjacent to any opposing character with "Deadpool" in its name; after this action resolves, T-Ray may be given a close combat action as a free action.
GotG 55 Iron Man: P.E.P.P.E.R. OVERRIDE: Iron Man can use Outwit. If Iron Man began his turn with two action tokens, he can make a ranged combat attack as a free action.
So in each of these example the attack is a free action, but, like I said, I know the wording has changed. So do Combat Attacks and/or Combat Actions still exist? Do these characters still get to make an attack or do their attacks no longer exist?
All they've done is rename it so what used to be known as a "close combat attack" is now a "close attack" and what used to be called a "close combat action" is now named a "CLOSE" instead. Same goes with the range counterparts. They've just changed name and also started using the all caps to separate the action from the act.
Ok, so in my examples, both Giant-Man and T-Ray can use Super Strength. However, only T-Ray could make an object atrack (or Flurry or Exploit Weakness)?
The effects still work as they did in the old rules. Effects that need a close action to activate need that CLOSE wording. If it isn't CLOSE, then you can't activate powers like Flurry or an object attack.
