Just want to double check on this. The knockback sequence comes after the damage sequence so I assume that when I hit a character and I have KNOCKBACK I get to wait until they have clicked damage before deciding whether to knock them back. Is that right?
I know that knockback prevention from charge etc. is determined at the start of the attack, I'm just wondering when exactly I make the knockback choice. Thanks.

KNOCKBACK When one or more opposing characters takes damage from this character's attack, you may choose to knock back all hit characters an amount equal to their damage dealt.

Not True.

Depends on the KNOCKBACK.
KNOCK BACK PREVENTION
Some effects prevent a character from being knocked back. For the first type of knock back (during an attack), check for these effects at the end of step 3 in an attack (before damage is dealt). For the second type of knock back, check for these effects just before knocking back the character. Effects that prevent a character from being placed also prevent a character from being knocked back.

Reason: added attack sequence
Velcade, you are right, what I said wasn't correct. What I was trying to say was that if you damage them and they lose charge, they still can't be knocked back. What I said was sloppy -- there might be instances where this distinction (step 3 rather than step 1) matters, so I should have gotten that right. Being wrong about the second type doesn't matter as much in this case, since that doesn't involve an attack at all, and I was talking about the first type of knock back.
But when do I decide whether or not to knock back if we are dealing with the first type of knock back?
That works for me. I figured it probably happened at the end of step 5 since KNOCKBACK specifies "When one or more opposing characters takes damage from this character's attack, you may choose..." Damage Clicked also says "When a character takes damage, you keep turning the dial until..." I figured that since damage clicked and knock back choice have the same timing (when a character takes damage) that I, as the active player, could choose the order. I don't know why I would ever choose to trigger knock back before seeing what their click looks like after taking damage, but you never know.
After step 5 of the attack sequence is a fine answer by me too, since what matters most to me is that I get to wait until they have clicked damage before deciding.
