Are you satisfied with hcrealms HeroClix database? (Units section)
Greetings everyone,
I have been an avid heroclix player for about 3 years now and have been extensively using hcrealms for everything heroclix related - from looking at figures on Units section to reading newest set reviews in Articles forum.
My question is - how satisfied do you currently feel with hcrealms database (Units section)? What you think it's doing good and what it lacks. Maybe everyone just feels that it's fine as it is right now and there is no need for a more modern solution.
I personally find it very hard to use, when I want to build my teams. The navigation is hard to get used to and even browsing units doesn't feel that user friendly. And that's after using the database for more than 3 years... What I find nice, is that any figure you look at, you can always find people commenting, however, since the comments are taken from a forum post dedicated for the figure, looking at these comments from Units section do not get correctly parsed, and you are left with tags and quotes that you cannot discern without looking to closely.
We are planning to implement this feature; initially with just maps; and eventually with the appropriate mappings. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer high-res maps for download unless WizKids makes them available … doing so on our own would be a copyright violation.
I'm very satisfied with the Units section, but perhaps that is because I've been using it since roughly 2004.
One thing I would change would be to implement a more robust collection tracking/trade system, as the one that is currently employed is so tedious as to make me never use it. Instead I use another site that relates to miniature trading, but that has been losing users like a leaking boat, so I'll probably end up having to use the trading system on here and I'm not looking forward to entering my collection one piece at a time.
I would also fill in all the missing Real Names where appropriate. If that's going to be a thing, then it should be a *complete* thing.
Otherwise, I love the Units section!
The official "Make Capt. Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew" rep. All other Zoo Crew fans, get in line behind me. There’s plenty of room for all of us.
I don't see your donor tags indicating that you're willing to support new development.

I used to Donate but stopped due to not using the realms for a while, lack of trading with people on here(i'm in Australia, most on here will not send international)
Pretty happy. Use to for team building all the time. Only thing I don't like is how 'Other' sets are taking up space between Modern and Golden. Be nice it I could hide them or move them to the very end, but it's a fairly mild inconvenience so I'm not gonna whinge too much about it.
I'm not looking forward to entering my collection one piece at a time.
It is a very daunting task (especially if you have a large collection), but it is SO worth it. It took me about a week to sort my collection by keyword after I came back to the game as i just had them categorized by range or utility before keywords were a big thing. I added them in (by set) as I went, which I found much easier than I expected but was still time consuming.

That would be a nice thing when I'm not as familiar with a character so I don't have to find the card or see if I'd want to trade for it, but it's rare that I personally need that much detail.
Personally, my biggest "wish list" item for it would to have the E/R versions available to list in my collection... there are a few figures I will never play at top dial but their lower version is good or amazing, but it's hard when I'm building a team in the units section to remember which one is which (especially when I have a Captain America or two that fall into that category.
If I knew it could bring that about, I would donate again.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
Units sections is fine. It works for what it does. It could certainly be better. Import/Export functionality would be great. So would the ability to build a full team, including attachments, sideboards, etc and then have that printed directly to a team sheet. Also, a more robust special power search including STOP and other keyphrases would be nice.
I would, however, like to be able to search by Special Objects. I just tried to figure out how to do this, and it was basically 'search by a unit whose base is on a card,' which gives ID Cards, Bystanders and such as well.

Yes, you can search by special object, but you can't search by ability that it gives (e.g. you can't search for a special object that grants toughness, but you can search by point or set). That would bee a nice upgrade, but the data entry would be much more daunting for special power or trait granted powers along the same lines.

A way to export the collection/have/want lists would be great. And a RESTful API to access the information. I'm trying to find the time to write a new Android app for this. And being able to access your site would be great.
