Correct me if I am wrong, but the rule does not seem to be in the rule book stating that if you have a resource on your team, you may not include a special object/relic.
I vaguely remember this coming up during the rules change. Is this right? Please point me to something I am missing.
If I play the Phoenix force, can a relic not affiliated with the PF be place during object placement?
it is possible that WK will address this in the promised guidance about past rules, but ... as of now, you may abuse things like using a Bat Signal with the Indigo Lantern Battery to your heart's content.
What they said. Be sure to read the card for whatever Resource you're intending to use though. As an example, the Infinity Gauntlet says you can't add special objects to your force if you're using it. I can't recall if any others do though.

Special objects and Resources both still exist, so it's unlikely they'll change it.

To be honest, I NEVER realized that was a thing. :O
But there it is, written on the card.
EDIT: Funnily enough, I didn't botch this in any of my tracked "Thugit, Inc." games! That's nice to know I've been playing it right, at least until potentially recently. Hmmm. Well, nice to know, all the same.
