So I use Wasp and do the shrink thing to my colossal.
(-3) PYM PARTICLE RELEASE: FREE: Choose Tiny Symbol, Starburst symbol, Giant symbol, or Colossal symbol. Wasp, Heart of the Avengers and adjacent friendly characters (that aren't vehicles) gain that symbol until your next turn.
I make them a pilot of the vehicle.
What happens next turn when I change back to normal size?
Also what happens if I give them the tiny hammer when there normal size?
Any equipped objects will stay equipped but you will not be able to use their effect once the equipped character changes to a non-standard size. Core Rulebook, page 35:

EQUIPMENT
If an effect causes an equipped standard character to become non-standard (such as becoming or ), they stay equipped, but can’t use the equipment’s EFFECT ability.
If it was a 2x2 it could not have been equipped or be a pilot in the first place though...

STANDARD CHARACTER
Some effects only apply to a “standard character.” A standard character is a character that: • Has a single base or peanut-base

Assuming it was a single-based Pacific Rim Colossal that was shrunk to standard size and became the pilot, technically nothing happens?
The character would not revert sizes while Off The Map, and even if they did, the check for a standard character is only when the character becomes a pilot. There is nothing in the rules that mentions anything like for equipment. Comprehensive Rulebook, page 12:
Quote
• As long as this vehicle has no pilot, adjacent friendly standard characters have “POWER: Become this vehicle’s pilot.” Pilots are removed from the map and placed on the vehicle’s HeroClix card. A character is only a pilot as long as it’s on the vehicle’s card due to an action that made it the pilot.
• If a Vehicle has a pilot, it has “POWER: Place the pilot adjacent.”
Worth asking about on WIN as it seems weird you could lock someone into a different size by making them a pilot and then popping them out after the Wasp effect duration has passed. I could be wrong about this part but I was pretty sure it only meant effects THAT specific character triggered or activated, and this effect here would not apply:
"Characters off the map can’t interact with characters on the map and can only interact with effects that specify them being off the map, with three exceptions:
• Any of that character’s effects with durations that were activated or triggered before it was removed from the map continue and expire normally."
Maybe that means any effects at all and they would revert sizes and pop out of the Dune Buggy colossal Kaiju again in my example. Not sure about that part.

Apologies for the long aside. None of that matters in your specific case with 2x2s pretty sure

Reason: clarified and sectioned off the aside on single-base colossals
Unless it is a single or peanut-based colossal, you still wouldn't be able to equip it, because any character with a base bigger than those (which, at 2x2, the AI colossal figures are) would not be a standard character and only standard characters can be equipped. So, while you can change a character's damage symbol size through the rules, there is nothing you can do about it's physical base size.

A peanut base is also multibase and not a standard character.

If anyone is planning on taking this to the WIN, I suggest using Atlas, Stature, or Goliath, since they are all single-base giants that are MA-Legal for a while longer.
No, not colossals, but the ruling would be the same for them.

Really any Tiny-sized character being made Standard-sized and then into a pilot would work too as an example.
There used to be a rule/ruling/clarification that if the pilot became a non-standard character, that they would be placed adjacent to the vehicle. Not sure if that is the case anymore.
Also, to the OP about Frogjolnir, the equipped character would now be Tiny and stay that way until unequipped, where they would then return to normal size. Of course that equipment states it continues to work while Tiny.

I don't believe it is. With the way Piloting works now, it seemingly only matters if they're a Standard character for the use of the POWER action to become a Pilot.

The issue previously was that the rules said only Standard characters can be Pilots. Now, you only need to be a Standard character to be able to use the action, so it shouldn't matter what happens after that, as there is no longer a constant restriction in place.
