So was curious about official stance on PnP pogs since I have gotten conflicting answers. As an example can PnP pogs of the TMNT bystanders be used or do you need the originals. Mud Man looks like he will be popular and I bought 5 thinking it'd be a good idea to have a few, or 5. Did I waste money or is PnP not a legal option?
At nationals, players were using neoprene versions of the Boxing ring (for convenience) as well as custom bystanders.
At worlds, would they let you run 5 Mud Men that were from the secondary market?
Dunno.
I was talking to Wizkids Judge at US nationals, and they said as long as you had the original boxing ring to show them (Judge and Opponent), than you can use neoprene version of the boxing ring on map.
I have asked Wizkids from facebook in 2017 about PnP for a correct copy of Proteus character card. They said it that I could use it for the tournament
Officially, WK's can no longer support PnP, but they also very deliberately have avoided saying it's no longer allowed. I have yet to hear of PnP not being allowed at any official WK's run events. It's kind of, pardon the analogy, an don't-ask-don't-tell scenario. They can't let stuff be posted publicly online, and they can't supply it themselves, but if someone shows up with character cards, bystanders, etc., made by a third party, they still allow them to be used. "Personal use" generally doesn't violate the associated laws, so WK's can at least turn a blind eye and claim ignorance in those cases.
In other words, yeah, you can use them, but you can't press the issue with WK's, or it will eventually get screwed up for everybody.
Just keep in mind that the old PnP rules still apply, ie; you can't use it for 3D game elements, only "cardboard". So no proxying Mjolnir.
Those bystanders were not costed though. Had to use PnP.
As is further detailed down thread, that isn't really germane to the question.
Especially since as I said, it's a crap shoot. And as Lantern more correctly pointed out, anyone pressing the issue is going to make it worse for everyone.
The best course of action is, if you're going to a large WK sponsored event (Nats, World's, etc.) to try and talk to a judge before the event to make sure your build is legal (at Nats, they verified every build, so that would be the absolute latest you would find out).
Any anything lower than that (including a WKO) you should be fine, but should still check with the judge.
