Long before Annihilation and Conquest, when the Marvel Universe's spaceways were in danger, three cosmic heroes came together to guard the galaxy! In this edition of Comic Accurate, it's the Star Masters!
Back in 1995, Marvel was sort of in the midst of delineating their comics into different groups. Of course you had the Spider-Man group, the X-Men group, the Avengers group, Marvel Edge for grittier heroes, and then there was a line for the Universe. Silver Surfer, Captain Marvel, Lunatik (don't ask) and a new team book that brought together Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill and Quasar.
The premise was that gigantic meteors were being hurled at planets by an unseen force destroying them and somehow it's connected with Quasar being framed for the mass murder of The Charter, an intergalactic peacekeeping force. The Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill both go to investigate this situation, finding out he's been set up. From there they decide to team together and solve this problem... especially when one of those big meteors is sent towards Earth.
The book only lasted three issues and in the following two issues, these three heroes were joined by new members Captain Morphex and Xenith, both of whom obviously don't exist in HeroClix. But we're just focusing on the first issue with the build for the team.
Why these figures - Beta Ray and Quasar got picked for their new hotness and Silver Surfer then picked to fill the points.
Tips for running this team - While they're only a generic Cosmic theme team, you won't get any rerolls, but at least you'll get a map bonus. If it helps you win the initiative, go for something nice and wide open. The big trick with this team is keeping Quasar and Silver Surfer adjacent to Beta Ray Bill. Bill's Weather Manipulation special power on damage will give them good protection from ranged attacks unless the opposition gets within four squares of them. Plus if Quasar or Surfer miss, Bill can prob them.
Let us know how the Star Masters did for you! Next week, it's a new issue of Unclixed! Then in two weeks, it's another edition of Comic Accurate!
I played this team a little while back and even with the Surfer being relatively terrible by todays standards, Quasar and Bill were good enough to carry the day!
"I remember you said to me once, you said... 'if death ever comes your way and won't let you pass... make sure you scream right back in his face"
I've been playing this team since Critical Mass. I need to bust it out again now that we have an Awesome new Beta Ray Bill, an Awesome new Quasar, and an Awesome new....

Thanks!
I hate myself for not getting that one sooner!
I actually own all the Star Blasters comics so this one matters to me!
What's Star Blasters?
(Just joking with you. I own Star Masters too! I was a young teenager at the time it came out and couldn't believe that three of my favorite charactes were teaming up!)
