I don't know if any characters have this, but say spider dad (who has both PD and spider family team abilities) copied a hydra, would the adjacent character's target get -2 defense, since they are technically different abilities, even though they are the exact same wording?

Absolutely. Each one is independent, and thus triggers independently. Of course, you still have to deal with the rule of 3, but your little combo is mighty efficient.

You see similar stuff with Uhura giving Starfleet pieces access to Avengers: +2 to speed on Move actions instead of +1.
