So why did I choose to post my article on a Spirit Deck?
I started to realize the strength of Spirit Monster while watching the Yu-Gi-Oh! TV Show, watching Noah Kaiba dueling Yugi Motu. Noah used a deck combined the Shinato, King of a Higher Plane and Spirit Monsters such as Yamata Dragon, Yata-Garasu, Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi and Asura Priest. The thing that impressed me the most was Inaba White Rabbit. Its ability to attack your opponent's life points directly is pretty usual, but the thing is, he escapes being attacked next turn by returning to your hand. Later on the day I watched the show, I dueled a guy that ran an unknown deck. Surprisingly – he was using a "Hit and Run" deck; Inaba White Rabbit control. Spirit monsters have their own field control, they usually don't battle during your opponent's turn, instead they rather return to your hand and also, they have very good effects. Some people would rather use Spiritual Energy Settle Machine, to avoid being attacked directly, but no; Spiritual Energy Settle Machine doesn't fit most Spirit Decks at all.
There are a few reasons why Spirit Monsters need to return to your hand:
- They avoid being attacked, cards like Inaba White Rabbit and Asura Priest who have low ATK in the current Meta-Game will be destroyed easy, and instead they return to your hand and stay safe.
- Returning to help gives some sort of circulation: Tsukuyomi for example has an effect that is activated when it appears on the field in any sort of Summon. It SHOULD return to your hand so you can use it over and over.
Let's take Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi for example. A very strong monster ATK-wise, 2800 ATK is like Dark Magician of Chaos for example. A Game-Breaking effect right here. If Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent must discard all cards in his/her hand during the next Draw Phase before they draw. Yes boys and girls, discard your entire hand! This card is amazing, and this card is not easy to battle with either. It can get passed probably most of the played monsters, also with Big Bang Shot for example, this monster can take down our little muscular friend Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. The fact that your opponent discards BEFORE he draws is also good. He doesn’t have the chance to set Traps/Monsters/Spells, so his hand is happily discarded with lots of joy. If we were talking about Big Bang Shot, let's slip to the other side with Asura Priest.
Asura Priest, oh Asura Priest. I love this Monster. LIGHT Monster, chaos food, we don’t care! This monster has some crazy abilities. It can attack all monsters on your opponent's side of the field; One-Scapegoat-after-another. It can perform a very strong attack on monsters, but the bad part is its ATK: 1700. Can be taken down by a virgin Breaker, Kycoo, or perhaps D. D. Assailant. Something good is Big Bang Shot and a multiple attacking monster – Like Asura Priest perhaps. Also good is the fact that you attack selectively, meaning you are allowed to select which monster(s) you attack in a multiple attack preformed by Asura Priest. "Asura Priest" does not have to attack all monsters on your opponent's side of the field. If you opponent controls 3 monsters, you may choose to attack only 2 of them.
Even if your opponent controls a stronger monster, you can select other targets for attack with Asura Priest. Over-all: Great Monster, combining well with Big Bang Shot of course. Because against Scapegoat or defense position monsters it's VERY Deadly.
If we're talking about that, let's move to Inaba White Rabbit; Inaba White Rabbit is a monster which has the simple ability to attack your opponent's life points directly. Now what makes Inaba different from Jinzo #7 or Mystic Lamp? It has more ATK, and it returns to your hand at the End Phase. Why is it so good you might ask? I'll tell you: When for example Mystic Lamp stays on your side of the field after a successful attack on your opponent, it becomes vulnerable to attacks from your opponent. Inaba White Rabbit jumps on its stick back your hand and charges itself to your next turn. Thing is, Inaba White Rabbit attacks your opponent's life points directly – means you HAVE to attack your opponent's life points directly at any time. That would have been a drawback, but 700 ATK makes it worth it.
Ok from looking at the deck at first you will probably be wondering why is Jowen the Spiritualist is in the deck, same thing with Royal Oppression. It's simple – This text is in every Spirit Monster's card effect: this card cannot be Special Summoned. So when Jowgen is on the field not even a single monster can be Special Summoned, and by discarding a card randomly from your hand to the graveyard you can destroy all Special Summoned Monsters on the field. Same thing stands for Royal Oppression – you need to share this effect with your opponent, but he won't be able to use it because he can't target any of your monsters, which cannot be Special Summoned. 800 life point payment to negate Envoy of the Beginning is more than worthy.
Now what I like to do when I'm not playing on the computer is playing with my Tsukuyomi! Tsukuyomi is a big fun! What I have here is Tsukuyomi with Nobleman of Crossout, Night Assailants and Magician of Faiths. This is continuous craze. Summon Tsukuyomi, flip opposite monster face-down Defense position, Nobleman it. So on and so forth your opponent starts getting the idea of a re-useable Book of Moon is taking over the field and starts controlling him. A little brief on Susa Soldier. It is a non-tribute monster, 2000 ATK. Each time this monster inflicts battle damage to your opponent's life points, that damage is halved. This monster fits in well, so I added 2.
In each of my End phases, my field will remain clear, no monsters to Protect me. I use The Dark Door which is an inspiration that I got from W/Interest in his Spirit Deck. It's brilliant! My opponent and I can only attack with 1 Monster in each of our Battle Phases. So, since my field will remain clear, and in most of the times I will be able to attack only with 1 monster, I rather have The Dark Door and make my opponent attack with only 1 monster at a time. Also, monster removal is needed in the deck, because if I don't have The Dark Door I might get hit. Creature Swap is a good old solution. Activate Creature Swap on my… Asura Priest perhaps. Exchange it with my opponent's monster. Asura Priest returns to my hand and I get a free monster! Doing this over and over will be fantastic. Smashing Ground, Nobleman of Crossout, and the staples are for the kicks, make the deck balanced.
Another very vital card in the deck is Monster Reincarnation. Since Spirit Monsters cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard [And from anywhere else] Monster Reincarnation brings them back to the hand for second usage! This is probably a staple in a Spirit deck instead of Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted. Big Bang Shot is MAINLY for Asura Priest. Since it can attack all of your opponent's monsters on the field, it may attack Scapegoats or Defense Position Monster as well, so penetrating through the Defense of a Monster could be curtail.
Royal Oppression [Which I talked about with Jowgen before] and the rest of the Trap Board are the regular non-reviving Traps that I could add to balance.
Interdimensional matter transporter works better than dimensionhole. The only problem I see with monsters is that you have 6 monsters that don't go back to your hand, and all of them are weak. I realize their effects more than outweigh their strength, heck, who would care if magician of faith had 0 attack and 0 def? The point is, I think it might be dificult for you to summon hino more than once or twice a game, because your flips might be destroyed too quickly.
In all though, it's innovative, and I think it has something going for itself..
My point would actually be Creature Swap, that's the best way I can summon Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi. For example: summon Tsukuyomi, flip itself face-down, later on Tribute it. I can summon Hino-Kagu, that's nothing you should worry about.
