Welcome to this, my first OFFICAL article for YugiohRealms! (Massive applause mixed with boos)
For some bizarre reason, certainly NOT for my writing skills, I have been asked by Nataku to prepare at least one article a week for Realms. This is both an honor and somewhat of a curse, because I don't know if I can come up with enough to flesh out an article every single week! That's really a lot of thinking, writing, typing and hooha. I'm not really sure if I have anything to say that hasn't already been said before a hundred times over, but I will give it a shot!
Many of you may recognize me due to the prolific tournament reports I post here. If not, I insist you head over to the article section and read every single one of them right now! Finished already? That was fast. Ha. As you can see, I am a fan of atypical deck builds. I hate CCC. I am opinionated. Some people do not like me. Sometimes I make mistakes. I get mad. I lose as much as I win and take it all in stride.
I am forty three years old and am a houseparent at a Children's Home in Georgia (USA). I have four biological children and typically 6 other boys in my "cottage". I use the term cottage loosely only because that's what they are called. They are more like really ginormous houses. Around the time Legacy of Darkness came out, many of the children in the cottage were playing Yugioh. I thought it might be fun to learn. I asked my daughter to teach me, and not only was it fun, it gave me and the boys in the cottage something in common. I discovered Yugioh was able to teach reading, math and social skills. It also opened up areas of abstract thinking for the boys. Many of the children who come into our care are lacking in many of these skills, and Yugioh was a perfect tool to bolster areas where these children needed help.
I became hooked. We all constantly played Yugioh and soon, I began to look for outside avenues where we could duel. I had decided it was time for organized play! Luckily, we live in an area where there are several stores within a half an hour drive and many others all within an hour and a half or less. I was really confident in my deck and dueling abilities since my daughter and I were the dominate duelists in our little Yugioh world. Excitedly, nervously and with great anticipation, we attended our first offical tournament! The store was packed to the gills and I got my butt killed tremedously by a thirteen year old. Ouch. That was humbling. I lost week after week, but soon came to get a better understanding of the "metagame" concept and honed my deck building skills. It took a GK deck to finally put me into the finals after weeks of losing. I came in second! Hooray! My first decisive victory and to the winner goes the spoils!
Since then, the game and I, have evolved a good deal. No longer is Gemini Elf "THE" hot card. No more packing three Mystical Space Typhoons. No more Yata Garasu and three Injection Fairy Lily being run. Sadly, no more Fiber Jar. I've played in a couple of regionals and The Millenium Trophy I won is now gathering dust.
In future articles (or should I say "rambling pontifications"), I will probably just write about whatever comes to mind. Things I like, things I hate. Deck types and deck builds. The metagame and the players of the metagame and of course, there will always be the ban list to talk about and certain cards to bash and flame. Of course, I am open to suggestions, too. Feel free to PM or email me with help!!
That's it for this week, so tune in next time for whatever it is I decide to write about.
Thanks spell. I hope I can add a little something here and there. I just hope I don't run out of ideas. I keep a little word doc. that I jot down stuff when it pops in my head. Most of all, I DON'T want to BORE people to death....
Hey,Regn. To tell the truth, im not really surprised that you were asked to write official articles. Judging by your tourney reports, I think you would do a fine job writing articles. So I shall look forward to your future articles.
Well I agree about most of your stuff that you believe in and like to say that you inspire some duelist around my area of NC to duel w/ Panda, and Monarchs around here......
I also agree that this time hopefully BLS-EOTB should have been banned the last time but we can't get all wish for in this world......
hey RegnR8, i enjoy your tourney reports and am happy that someone else loves the monarchs as much as me, i wish i could go to tourney's,all thereis where i live is a local place where we meet, trade, and play so it sux.
well good article anyway i think you've let people understand you more and have earned some respect doing so
Thanks! I'm glad I'm good for something. LoL. I've met several people that either have no place to go to duel or only one place, so I think that may be an article idea right there.
Tyrant,
It actually surprised me. I am constantly amazed at how many people pay attention to what people write and actually read it. I also am really shocked at how many people respond to my tourney reports.
spell,
I am still trying to kick up the Panda deck another notch, but it's hard in the current meta. Too many cards one "has" to play with to even be remotely competitive. Hmmm....that's another article right there.
Interesting to see where BLS ends up after October 1st. Lots of speculation on that one......
As an innitiation, you'll be asked to do three tasks, each more difficult than the previous. Each task will be accompanied by a riddle which you must solve and answer before the Big Ben clocktower in London strikes midnight.
Should you fail, you will be fastened to a makeshift YugiohRealms torture chamber bed and your soul will be offered to awaken the beatiful seductress Dark Necrof...
(listens to whispers from Nataku)
...Huh?!?! We don't do that anymore?!?!
(listens to whispers from Nataku)
...Oh. Well then, I guess we'll just skip to the end...
Welcome to the Writers' Column.
Beware the "You mispelled _____ " comments we all hate.
I look forward to shooting ideas back and forth between us and hopefully each of our writing pushes the other's writing to a higher level of...
I'm rambling!
WELCOME!!!!
Waldo10032 – The Fiendish Duelist says:
------------------------------------- "Everything I know, I learned from Novastar, VenomLord, Magicien_Noir, KrazyKillRoy, Pyrofire14, Nataku, Jeff_Mop, Tamahome, mortals, KenjiBlade, Agentmage2012, Hinky, fantasyzz, and Tyloki. So praise me for learning so well when I'm right and blame THEM for screwing up when I'm wrong. (More people will be added to this list as needed) "
GO Rescue Kitty!!! Claw their eyes out!!! 53 One Turn Kills (Including First Turn Kills)
19 First Turn Kills
65 Sheep Tokens trampled for over 3000 Damage each
10 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning removed from play
1 Black Luster Soldier (Ritual) removed from play
11 Jinzos Removed from play
What? You mean that whole Dark Necrofear thing was a lie!? I've been betrayed!
Yeah, I get a lot of the misspelled word thing already so, I'm use to it. I try to make sure I have all the grammar and spelling correct but, sometimes one gets rushed and messes up. I wrote and proofread a lot when I was in advertising (shudders at the horror of past experience), and I like Dickens.
Hi, always nice to see a new Article writer (I love Articles, as anyone who knows me can attest), so I'll look forward to anything and everything you post ^^
@waldo: What? You guys don't do that anymore?? Aw, then where's the fun... xD
Not to say anything but wow there are so many parents playing this game, it amazing. I'm 12 so I don't know anything about being a parent, but playing Yugioh would be the equlevent of a day at a spa I guess.
Back to the topic, hey RegnR8 I hear you play in Fayetteville, Ga I have been there before I like the swiss tourneys but the down side is that the crowd is not that crowded and the tourney start at 11:00 am, to early for me, I play in Stockbridge, Ga at Bookends maybe you should try it out sometimes. And yes there is no surprise at why you are a staff writer you write tourney reports for like almost evermajor yugioh website including Realms and Pojo. :)
Hooray! I hope your articles are as interesting and amusing as your tourney reports...I don't read anybody else's, I just don't care generally but yours are always interesting, probably because they never mention "Remove one LIGHT and one DARK..."
Welcome to the article business! Hope to see some good ones soon!!
More to read! Wahoo! I read all your tourney reports and we've e-mailed back and forth a few times. I enjoy your insight into the game tremendously and continue to learn from your experience. My son and I continue to enjoy the game, he with Horus deck and me running Metamorphosis.
Like you, I'm anxiously awaiting the new ban list this October and can only hope Konami will use it to right a game that's seriously in jeopardy of rolling over. It would be exciting, not to mention FUN, to see creative and original decks actually enjoy some competitiveness. Who knows... it may even drive the prices of cards down a little (hahahahaha!).
My only advice is take your time, be yourself, and focus on quality, not cranking out a ton of articles. Your tourney reports are AWESOME and have me looking forward to enjoying more articles and learning more from you.
