a long time ago i used to preach about originality in decks. recently ive found myself falling into the same problems other people have - cookie cuters get the job done - indefinately.
so ive decided to step away from the phoenix, bls and allmost all the other broken cards for a while and start over with the basics.
for now im sticking to curent format with an idea based around a fun little card called maji-gire panda. enjoy.
my pandas dont like you
monsters: 17
2 manticore of darkness ( i have a reason)
3 enraged battle ox
3 Maji-Gire Panda
3 beserk gorilla
2 cannon soldier
2 dd asailant
tribe infecting virus
morphing jar
spell : 15
3 stray lambs
1 scapegoat
card destruction
premeture burial
snatch steal
gracefull charity
2 hammer shot
mystical space typhoon
enemy controler
heavy storm
raigeki break
pot of greed
traps : 7
3 ojama trio ( again ill explain)
mirror force
call of the haunted
dust tornado
sakaretsu armour
ok the explanation.
theoreticaly ( still unsure on if this works) i get out my panda. then i discard a manticore somehow to trigger what i hope will work. basicaly its like the infinate draw loop but im using it to fuel panda - therefore pumping him up constantly. stray lambs are used to trib to cannon soldier - which also pumps up my panda.
the ojama trio is tech. flip a trio, kill the tokens, panda gets larger. if enraged battle ox is out its a tramplefest - even more deadly if i ojama lock the field and trample fest - he would get 500 bigger every time a beast got killed.
so what do you think - its my first atempt at something different for a long time. any critisism, help or comments left would be greatly apreciated.
Wow, this deck is looks very effective. Kudos for using an overlooked common! I also love your use of Ojama Trio (one of my favorite cards).
What I'd suggest is running 1 or more Last Wills because you'll be sending monsters to the graveyard anyway and you can get out more Maji-Gires or Cannon soldiers for your liking. Maybe take out a Stray Lambs for 1 or 2.
About your use of Hammer Shot... If you're going to be powering up Maji, Hammer shot can get in your way if you're using it to destoy your opponent's monsters. Maybe you could try out Smashing Ground to do the job. That is, unless you are using Hammer Shot to start the loop with Manticore of Darkness then use that instead. Smashing Ground can prove more useful though.
The loop with Manticore.. Doesn't that begin during the end phase? If so, I'd invest in some My Body as a Shield to make sure your Maji-Gires will survive longer.
Some monsters you could use are Injection Fairy for extra power and for tense situations, and Giant Rat, a beast that you can kamikaze for another Maji or Injection Fairy that can power up a Maji already on the field and set up the field for two monsters to power up with the Manticore loop.
Umm, also, I think Raigeki Break is a trap :cheeky:
If you have the time, could you rate/fix my Dark Scorpion deck in my sig? Hopefully you'll find it original as well.
gosh, its been a while since I reviewed Manticore's text. but, Im pretty sure that since Maji Gire Panda only gets its boost when a Beast type is "destroyed" that it wont trigger a boost to simply instigate a Manticore loop, considering you are tributing as a cost.
Same thing for tributing Stray Lambs to Cannon Soldier.
I have a very similar deck to this right now. However I decided to forego Gorillas and Ox in favor of Rescue Cats and Catnipped Kitty. Alongside the "other" panda, trample can still be fun.
Ojama Trio? Good, nice, perfect. Same thing I have too. Works well for Maji-Gire.
the biggest difference I have decked that you might find useful is DNA Surgery. Maji Gire Panda doesn't care which side of the field the Beast type gets destroyed from, so each time you attack with Maji Gire, you boost him again.
Rescue Cat's text specifically states to "destroy" during the End Phase, so if you activate that effect with a panda on the field, then you end your turn with a 2000 attack monster to defend with.
The "other panda" is nice boosting and trample for the Ojama Trio and stuff.
I like how you used Hammer Shot. Anyways, fix the technical issues surrounding Manticore and Cannon Soldier, and it looks like you are on the way.
First off the deck concept isn't new as people in the past (until they realized it sucks) have tried it and it fails often. So naturally, this deck concept DOESN'T work very well. Another thing that I'd like to point out is that Raigeki Break is a TRAP CARD not a SPELL CARD...I have no clue why people still think it's a Spell card after all these years.
Another thing that I'd like to point out in a more detailed explaination of why this deck won't work.
Tribute doesn't equal destroy in any context of the way that word is used. It's either used in the context of a Cost Effect such as Horn of Heaven (which does destroy, but negating a summoning is like considering that monster to have never hit the field in the first place since negate means to undo something or cross out a mistake or error) and Tribute to the Doomed. Another thing Tribute is used for is for the Game Mechanic of Tribute Summoning. This of course is NOT destroying a monster.
So with all that said and done, all these "Tribute" effects that are Cost or are for Tribute Summonings WILL not give your little panda a 500 attack boost ever. Once again, the deck concept isn't new. People have tried it and found out that it isn't as effective as people seem to make it appear to be.
Also, another thing I should mention is that if Beast monster's get destroyed all at once (like Tribe-Infecting Virus or something), Maji-Gire Panda WILL NOT gain 500 for EVERY Beast destroyed, it will ONLY gain 500 for the whole lump.
Rulings
The effect of "Maji-Gire Panda" is a Trigger Effect that activates when 1 or more Beast-Type monster(s) are destroyed. If the monsters were destroyed as a result of battle, the timing of this effect is at the end of the Damage Step, when the monsters are sent to the Graveyard.
You can chain to the activation of "Maji-Gire Panda"'s effect, including with "Divine Wrath".
If 2 or more Beast-Type monsters are destroyed at the same time, the ATK of "Maji-Gire Panda" only increases by 500 points.
Beast-Type tokens like "Sheep Tokens" are included and will increase the ATK of "Maji-Gire Panda" when destroyed.
Monsters changed to Beast-Type by "DNA Surgery" are included and will increase the ATK of "Maji-Gire Panda" when destroyed.
Beast-Type monsters on your opponent's side of the field are included and will increase the ATK of "Maji-Gire Panda" when destroyed.
When face-down Beast-Type monsters are destroyed (by a card effect), the ATK of "Maji-Gire Panda" does not increase.
The ATK increase from the effect of "Maji-Gire Panda" remains as long as "Maji-Gire Panda" remains face-up on the field.
Also, like Tkwiget said, Maji-Gire Panda will ONLY get 500 ATK if a Beast type is DESTROYED.
If the monster is tributed or "sent to the graveyard," it is NOT considered "destroyed" and will not give Maji-Gire Panda 500 ATK, so the whole concept of Manticore of Darkness x2 will not keep triggering Panda since you are merely "sending to the graveyard" and not "destroying."
*scratches head*
I thought I said all that about the tributing not equaling destruction? Oh well. At least I got backed up by Half and Tkwiget.
I still think the idea is fun (which is why I am playing one too). As a casual deck its has merit. It may be difficult, as Tkwiget suggested, but that's no reason to give up on it. If nothing else, its good training on building and rules to try and make it as effective as can be.
Im glad that Half mentioned the part about Maji only getting a lump sum gain for multiple monsters, rather than an individual count, because I have to admit, I was playing it incorrectly.
Now, since you are looking for "destruction" in the text, consider Wild Nature's Release. That will destroy a Beast Type during the End Phase and contribute to Maji's boost (so long as you arent boosting Maji, that is). Whats super fun is that with DNA Surgery, you can boost their new "Beast" and have it destroyed during the EndPhase. Boost plus Removal.
