You know, maybe it's me but when you do something you would think about it first before you go ahead and do it. Otherwise it comes out wrong and your screwed. I know it's not a one man job that thinks about cards and what they should do. WHY would they make cards that you can't use anymore. This makes no logacal sence to me. Why make a yata and then have it banned for life. It's no longer a needed or a highly wanted card. There is so much that is going to be a bunch of really great cards banned which I do understand but make it fair so we can use some of the other banned cards off. Why do I care if I get a yata, ced, bls, plus others. Like makura the destructor, I think we got to use it for 2 weeks and banned. Why make god cards. There useless. They are only good as a freebe. I'm not sure if they know how to read. yuru what's this a new word ( tlm ced ). Plus why reedit a card after you made it. I say take the time to make them right. otherwise people and kids will get frustrated and lose interest. I love yugioh and so does my kids, but I have to look up cards all the time just to make sure they didn't change it. I know that out of 2000 or more cards out there are about 15 cards banned, until the new banned list comes out.
Thats why there are TWO types of formats ADVANCED and TRADITIONAL........ the game has to have some boundaries as well as rules....... thats like asking "Why would you make millions of copies of one card and you can only use 1, 2 or 3 copies of it?" "Why can't I use 10 Spirit Reapers?"
The Advanced format implies exactly that, considering more skill than luck, which ban cards are.......... but the Traditional format still lets players use those cards, with all due respect, but this really has not much sense.........
Try playing Traditional and you won't feel that frustrated.
And who said you can't use them? There are friendly duels, and there is the Trad. tournament format. So they did not make cards only to never allow you to use them again. They are still useable, just not in the Advance format.
Well, if you will notice with several of the banned cards (Raigeki, Change of Heart, Imperial Order) came out long before there was a ban list. See, the thing is, you can play test cards, but it is very hard to realize how players will abuse these cards and exactly how powerful they will be in the meta. Some times, cards seem to have a fair enough drawback (I.E. paying 1000 life points for Scientist's effect) but it turns out that the drawback is outweighed by the abusibility (is this a word?) of its effect. You never know how certain cards will interact with new cards later down the road, so it is sometimes necessary to ban these overpowered and abused cards to keep the game fresh and more fun. There is always traditional format as well if you do feel like playing with banned cards.
-Misprints/Errattas:
Misprints can happen, not just in cards, but in practically anything you buy. I don't see what the big deal with this is. As for erattas, from what I understand, it is very hard for UDE to make communications with KOJ, b/c of distance and the complex differences between the Japanese and English language. Since the Japanese language is based more on thoughts and ideas instead of words like ours, it is easy to mis-interpret certain card effects. Also, this means that the Japanese language is very vague. This vagueness plus the fact that the game is geared more towards a younger audience means that the cards are printed where they are easier to understand and in more simple form, as oppose to very specific card effects.
It's necessary for the new bans to go around to keep the game fresh. If it was me, I would have been pretty sick of this game by now if the ban list didn't change every six months. New bans give you ways to create new decks to keep the game alive.
Also, the US bans mirror the Japan ones so that's why Makyura was banned so quickly.
It took a while to find it, but yeah, this topic is also being discussed here. I guess this thread is more appropriate though, but just to centralize everything, here's the link.
That's why my local area does traditional sanctioned tournaments every saturday. Most of us have the types of decks where during these events we can slip in our Yata, or CED's and have a field day with them. Granted, I'm one of the few who doesn't use a chaos deck, I enjoy being able to know that despite CED and BLS being banned, I still can see them in my local area against some very experienced duelists.
Though with Yata I agree a bit. When it was released it was obviously too powerful to be used, just like the God cards so they had to ban it right when the next list came out because it would cause thousands of problems and it wouldn't be "Yu-Gi-Oh!" but more like "who can draw yata first" because yata locking is too easy. Just use sangan, witch of the black forest, and three copies of whatever card from magic ruler had the same attribute, that or if it gets discarded reborn, call, burial it. It was too easy to get from your deck and too powerful to be used. Sucks that a card so powerful exists, but I don't mind, still want one for the sake of traditional tournaments.
