I haven't had this much fun toying with a deck idea in a long time. Honestly, this is my first post in a while in this forum. With all of the new deck types out there, I wanted to try working on a deck similar to the ones I've seen, but different enough to be interesting. So, let me get to listing the deck, and I'll show you what I've come up with.
Deck Name: Spellcasters: Darkest Day

Note that this will be a post-ban Deck.

Fusion Deck - 2
2 Dark Paladin
Main Deck
Lets get to it. Only two Dark Magicians. What am I thinking, right? You have to realize that with the number of tribute/special summon monsters in the main deck, drawing two or three Dark Magicians in the opening hand is almost an automatic defeat especially if all you draw is Magician of Faith with it. And why only 1 Dark Magic Attack? Same reason. Why draw into a dead card if there aren't any Dark Magicians on the field?
Magician of Faith, for those who haven't noticed, is the only pair of Light monsters in the deck, this reasons into the fact that Chaos Sorcerer is a 1-of. Therefore, why have more than I need? Especially when I can search it with Apprentice Magician if need be?
I assume Breaker is standard fare for this deck as well, considering his potential as a pre-emptive trap/spell remover. And the Pitch-Black Power Stone plays to his ability as well, so I could very well summon him during the draw step using a well timed Magical Dimension.
Side Deck
Its not finished, no surprise there. I may not even use the cards I've got in there now, I may can the idea entirely, remove the Fusion Deck, and just put in archtype breaking cards to stop other decks. No matter what I choose to do, its really up to me in the end, but I would appreciate help.
The purpose of Sorcerer of Dark Magic is to step in for Dark Magician of Chaos. Sure, the big, bad Sorcerer is difficult to summon, but potentially, he brings that much more to the table, and its not much more difficult to summon him since there are plenty of cards to get Spellcasters on the table. His main reason for being is his trap negation ability. Think of him as Jinzo with Amplifier minus the horrible auto-kill when Amplifier is destroyed.
Obviously, I've included extras of key cards from the main deck in case the single copies aren't enough. I've also gone as far as to figure out a way to get a fusion monster onto the field. I may either add Fusion Gate, or I may just stick with the Polymerization route, but either way, I can do it.
I'm also debating the Skilled White Magicians. I would like to use them to put a Buster Blader on the field, but in the long run, I don't really need to do that. I can just as easily fuse the dynamic duo in my hand.
Fusion Deck
Ultimately, this is an obvious one. Dark Paladin. The one, the only, dragon killer, and negator of Spells, for a price. A bad boy at 2900 atk, but well worth it against dragon decks.
General Comments
This deck isn't built for any particular metagame. I don't know how it will perform until I test it out vigorously. This is just an experiment, but one in which other players with great knowledge of the game are always welcome to help expand on the idea. This deck, like my warrior deck, my previous zombie deck, and my infamous (at least in my local area) fire-lockdown deck, have all started as experiments. Of all of my decks, the fire-lockdown deck has been the greatest of them all. In a single game, I managed to lock the board down to a point where we both drew and discarded because there was nothing to be done. Of course, it ended when we finally broke the lock, but then, how would you like to try chipping away at 16,000 life points?
Anyway, moral of the story, is to keep trying, no matter what others tell you. Even if they tell you that you suck, and that you shouldn't play the game because its a kids game.
Welp, that's my anecdotal thought for the evening. Feel free to comment anytime on this deck.
Monsters
-3 Gemini Elfs
Though they are spellcasters, the fact that they are normal leave them wide open for better choices.
Spells
- Dedication Through Light and Darkness
Way too situational as you need to have a specific monster out. This slot would be better used by a more versitile card.
- Mage Power
A dead draw depending on how you get it; if your hand was monster full then it is terrible, if it is magic full then you are wideopen after a Sakuretsu or Smashing Ground.
- Pot of Avarice
This card does not go into every deck and this is one where it needs to stay in the binder. By the time this card becomes playable, you will be around mid-game and will be depending on Spells and Traps to set up your win condition with DMoC or DM with Dark Magic Attack. Drawing monsters instead of them or a Magical Dimension is murder.
Traps
-2 Divine Wraths
Not much out there you really want to negate these days, it would be much easier to put in some bottomless trap holes
-2 Pitchblack Stones
I know why you run this, but do me a favor. Look at your deck and count how many cards use counters. Got it? Good, now that you have done that, tell me how you can get said card(s) to your hand outside of drawing. Got it? Good, hope you are starting to realize how pointless it is to run two cards for only one. If you draw them when Breaker is not on the field or in your hand, you are going to suffer from bad topdeck everytime.
Now for the additions
Monsters
+2 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyers
At 1800, they slam through many cards commonly found outside of Cyber Dragon and Mobius. An added bonus is that you also get to remove cards in their graveyard, a potential stopper for MoF, CotH, PB, or Bazoo.
+ D.D. Warrior Lady
Searchable by Sangan and the end all solution to almost any monster problem. Needs to be in every deck in my opinion.
Spells
+ Book of Moon
Imagine a world where you can abuse Apprentice Magician when Breaker is on the field, this will give you a power monster along with M/T destruction. The secondary plus is that it can stop attacks or make a MoF reuseable. I am also looking into it with a Combo involving DMoC, though I do not believe it works.
+ Snatch Steal
This card speaks for itself
Traps
+ Torrential Tribute
The greatest answer to swarm and a great combo with your own monsters when things are looking bad for you.
+ 2 Bottomless Trap Hole
A great solution to the monsters that might give this deck some trouble (Mobius, Cyber Dragon, Fusion Summons). Though if negation is important, then I could see a replacement for Solemn Judgement instead.
+ 2 Sakuretsu Armor
This deck's biggest issue comes from fast tempo decks, so this will allow you to set the tempo to a more managable level.
This is my answer to your question, take it or leave it.
Yeah, you definatley helped. After the fact I thought about Kycoo, and I'm glad you mentioned it, it'll make me move forward with fixing the deck up now. In my meta, there's a major league dragon deck that pretty much owns you turn two, and at the latest because of a dead draw, turn three.
Still, the suggestions you made will definately make the deck itself much better. I appreciate your comments, I'll make great use of them.
first off: no. dragon capture jar does not target one dragon...it targets all dragons on the feild and king only protects from targeting effects....
secondly: i would drop the geminis, the dmg(not really that great) and would add in 2xkycoos(really awesome) and 2xroyal magical libraries(they are light with 2000def...plus awesome effect) next i would lose the dark magic attack and the lighting vortex and put in 2 rush recklessly(good power up with mage power and they are quick play so mobuis is not totally killing them off) and finally i would lose the divine wraths for maybe 2 bottomless trap holes....just to good in my oppion...
well i wish you luck...also if you have the time plz look at the deck in my sig...thanks
Monsters - 20
3 Gemini Elf
3 Skilled Dark Magician
2 Dark Magician
2 Apprentice Magician
2 Old Vindictive Magician
2 Magician of Faith
1 Dark Magician of Chaos
1 Dark Magician Girl
1 Tsukuyomi
1 Chaos Sorcerer
1 Sangan
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
Let's see... I notice that you're running two light monsters. That might not be enough fuel. Also, Dark Magician Girl is highly fun but not really a great card in itself. Tentatively I'll suggest
-1 Chaos Sorcerer
-1 Dark Magician Girl
-2 Gemini Elf
Quote
Spells - 13
3 Magical Dimension
1 Dark Magic Attack
1 Dedication through Light and Darkness
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Graceful Charity
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Lightning Vortex
1 Premature Burial
1 Swords of Revealing Light
1 Mage Power
Right away I'll agree with the other posters that Dedication is, well, too dedicated. So is Pot of Avarice. Mage Power is a great way to draw dead. Many times I've had to relearn that equip cards whose sole purpose is to increase attack or defense are a sure fire way to card disadvantage. They just don't normally improve or maintain your field situation.
-1 Dedication through Light and Darkness
-1 Pot of Avarice
-1 Mage Power
+2 Nobleman of Crossout
+2 Smashing Ground
+1 Book of Moon
+1 Diffusion Wave-Motion

wow, you write alot. But from what I skimmed you have a pretty good head on your shoulders and are thinking a bit more advancely then other new players. I definitely want to help if I can but I will put more time in it later. I'll edit or post again when I get more time. Looking forward to checking this deck out! (mainly posting now to auto save the thread) :P
