Ok .. Here is the Card in Question.

Each time you discard 1 dragon type monster from your hand to the graveyard during your battle step, increase the ATK and DEF of this monster by 1000 points until the END Step of that turn.

ok .. that is what it says on the card I have in my possession. I was going through netrep and the main yugioh pages by Upperdeck to find rullings on it, but found none. However, I found this errata.

You can only activate this effect during your Battle Step, if this card battles during your turn. Discard 1 Dragon-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard to increase the ATK and DEF of this card by 1000 points until the End Step.

I couldn't find any rulings or clarifications about this Errata on here, netrep, or on upperdeck's site, but I have a couple questions.

1) With the original wording, you could discard as many dragons you had in your hand to boost the ATK and DEF by 1000 points per Dragon. With this Errata, am I only restricted to discarding only 1 dragon? Meaning that I can only boost the ATK and DEF to 2000??

2) If I have 2 spirit ryu on the field, can I discard 1 dragon and use it for both dragons to boost them both by 1000 points? Nothing on the card says about tributes offered for other effects don't count.

1 - As far as I remember, you may still discard as many dragon-type monsters from your hand to increase the attack of Spirit Ryu to whatever atk value you are able to. I found nothing on the judge list or on the FAQ that says anything to the contrary, so unless somebody can give proof that you can only do it once you should stick with this ruling.

2 - You may not. Every monster has their own battle step (this is when you declare an attack and who is going to receive it ), so when you declare your attack with one Spirit Ryu you can only activate the effect of THAT Spirit Ryu. You won't be able to activate the effect of both since only one is attacking.

Yes, you can still discard as many Dragon-Type monsters as you want in that one time (assuming you keep having them to discard)

The errata was meant to prevent people from discarding 2+ dragons from their hand at once and boosting Spirit Ryu with one lump sum.

Turn player could activate the effect, boost Spirit Ryu to 2000 and then, if there were no response, discard again to raise it to 3000, ect. But, each time the effect is activated (by discarding a Dragon) the opponent has the opportunity to chain with a negating effect (such as Divine Wrath, I think..) each time.

Someone may be willing to let you discard 1 Dragon to 2000, but decide to stop you from reaching any higher ATK levels.

The ruling used to be on the old Netrep 6.0 pdf, if anyone still has that.

yeah, the errata was only meant to clarify the effect. it basically works exactly like tribe virus (except for the timing)

you discard 1 dragon per activation, but since you are allowed as many chains in the battle step as you like you can keep starting new chains and discarding another dragon to gain another 1000 boost.

Discard 1 Dragon, decide whether or not to chain, opponent decides whether or not to chain...resolve...repeat, lol.

A good combo with this is Super Rejuvination or whatever the name of that card is....just sayin..... :noid:

Only reason I use it too...unless it's for a finishing blow...
