The Grave of Enkindling has a very specific timing issue, it only gets to be activated right after a monster is destroyed as a result of battle, BUT this is STILL during the Damage Step, so you could NOT use IRS still.
lancer, i think part of your problem is you are confusing the damage step and damage calculations.
they are 2 different things. damage calculations are a part of the damage step. basically the damage step is a pretty big step with a lot of things going on, so it was divided into substeps. now what the substeps are may differ depending of how detailed you want to get (for example kevin tewart made a very thurough chart but it takes a lot of other effects into account and it can be confusing if you only want the basics.)
basically there are 4 main parts of the damage step. first is damage calculations, this is where you flip face down monsters face up and are able to use atk/def modifiers (to calculate the damage they do).
second you apply the damage (lp are decreased and monsters are considered destroyed but stay on the field for now). afterwards you deal with flip affects and other effects that take place after damage calculation (like ddwarrior lady)
the last part of the damage step if sending the destroyed monster to the graveyard. this is where grave of enkindling/shining angel/etc. are activated and summon a monster, its still the damage step so IRS cannot but used.
