Because the text of Treasure Map states that it can only be activated in response to the activation of an effect that returns it to the hand, if I activate Giant Trunade with Treasure Map on my field, but my opponent chains any one of his cards (like Dust Tornado), would I still be able to activate my Treasure Map?

That is pretty much a "Blanket Statement". You can still chain Treasure Map To Dust Tornado.
It's no different than Summoning a monster and your opponent activates Bottomless Trap Hole, and you chain with Torrential Tribute. You are still responding to the summon.
In the case of Giant Trunade, Dust Tornado, and Treasure Map; Treasure Map is still responding to Giant Trunade, but chaining to Dust Tornado.
Actually, I believe that this was addressed a while back but I'm not entirely sure which board it was on. "Treasure Map" must be chained directly to an effect that returns it so if your opponent chains "Dust Tornado", you will not be able to use its effect.

Sounds logical, but it doesnt really sound "that" logical, as it throws a lot of basic response mechanics out the window, like,
Torrential Tribute
Bottomless Trap Hole
Trap Hole
But, I guess if that is how it goes, then that's that....
Dust Tornado WILL destroy Treasure Map, BUT it will NOT negate the effect of it. You can use Dust Tornado on Sakuretsu Armor in a chain, Sakuretsu will be destroyed, but not negated.
So if one activates Treasure Map when the other activates Giant Trunade, and they also chain Dust Tornado, Treasure Map will be destroyed by Dust Tornado, but not negated by it so you can draw your cards, then every m/t on the field goes back to the hand.

It's hard to say...
That's not actually what he means. He's talking about response timing. If Dust Tornado is activated in a chain to Giant Trunade, then Treasure Map loses it's response timing as it (in theory) must DIRECTLY respond to the effect, with nothing in the middle of the chain.

You completely and totally misunderstood the question. The question wasn't if you activate Giant Trunade, then Treasure Map, then Dust Tornado is activated.
It's if Giant Trunade is activated, THEN Dust Tornado...the question is are you even allowed to activate Treasure Map in chain to the Dust Tornado because of Treasure Map's activation restriction in the text.
Compare treasure map to barrel behind the door which must be chained to an effect which deals damage.
chaining torrential to bottomless in response to a summon is ok because the last action completed was the summoning of the monster. They don't care if another card was activated in between as the last thing to resolve was the summoning of the monster.
Whereas treasure map and barrel behind the door must be chained in response to the activation of the effect.

There is nothing to indicate that. What other possible text would Treasure Map have?
"This card can only be activated when a effect returns it to hand"
So now it must be specifically targeted, and there are only so many cards that Specifically target Spell or Traps to be returned to hand.
I think this needs a better answer than speculation (especially since Byser Shock can return set cards to hand).
speaking of Treasure Map I was wondering something. Does Treasure Map go to your Graveyard or to your hand after it is activated? At first i was thinking that it would go to the graveyard since it is being activated, however, then it occured to me that it would be chaining to the Giant Trunade, and thus, since the cards in a chain are not sent to the graveyard until the end of the chain i would think that Treasure Map would go to the your hand, since the effect of Treasure Map would kick in first, then would the Giant Trunade, sending it back to your hand, before the end of the chain.

Treasure Map is NOT a Continuous Trap Card. Once it is activated, it will be destroyed by Game Mechanic's and not return to hand.

those really aren't a logical comparison. TT/BTH/TH, etc. are all used in response to a summon, which isn't something you can chain to.
however treasure map is being used in response to the activation of an effect. now comparing it to a counter trap like barrel behind the door isn't right either since counter traps must be chained to the card they counter.
the best comparison would likely be comparing it to effects such as horus lv8, ruy senshi, and royal oppression. those are all also cards that are used in response to the activation of an effect, and they too must all be chained directly to the card they are responding to, that is the reason you must chain treasure map to the card returning it.
(on second thought, due to the fact that negate attack has been ruled that it does not need to be the first card of the chain, i think it is simply a matter of responding to a chainable event or not, and that any effect that responds to something would follow the same rules as counter traps. chained directly unless its an unchainable event.)
Yeah...based on the wording and the explainations, I have to agree that Treasure Map has to be directly chained to the activation of the card returning effect...

where did you get the whole specifically targeted part from? no part of this mentions it being targeted...
and there is nothing to indicate what? that it must be chained to the effect thats sending it back to the hand? If you look at the wording it's along the same lines that alot of counter traps use. that is why i draw the comparison, and because BBTD needs to be chained directly in response to the effect that deals damage. Completely forgot that bbtd was a counter trap....
Treasure Map
Normal Trap
You can only activate this card in response to the activation of an effect that would return this card from the field to the hand. Draw 2 cards from your Deck and discard 1 card from your hand.
Given the way the first sentence is worded, it would have to be chained directly to the activation of the returning effect with nothing "blocking" it off.
