so, my friend was looking at this card the other day... horrible and unplayble, IMO, but it brought about an interesting question nonetheless....
DARKNESS APPROACHES:
Discard two cards from your hand. flip one monster on the field facedown, but do not change it's battle position.
wtf!? face-down atk position? can someone explain how this would work? can you attack in f/d atk? how is damage calculated? it's not in the last rulebook i've read (then again, that ios the warrior's triumph sturcture deck rulebook, so idk....)
A very old thing...but it should be pretty much common sense...
1.) Face-down monsters, no matter what the position, CANNOT attack
2.) It's just like if a face-up Attack Position monster is attacked by a monster with an ATK less than the ATK of the monster it's attacked by...the attacking monster dies...
If it's equal...they both die...
It if's greater than it...the attacked monster dies...
Only real difference is...the monster is face-down and, like face-down Defense Position monster, won't be affected by things that only affect face-up monsters and such.
FLIP: effects and the effects that activate when flipped face-up take place normally.
However, if I remember right...effects that activate when Flip Summoned won't work since it requires monsters to be flipped from face-down Defense Position into face-up Attack Position.

If the monster is a flip effect monster, its effect will still activate.

There are more to flip summons than that. Flip summons are manually accomplished, not by card effect.
The card "Book of Taiyou," for example, will flip a monster from face down defense mode into face up attack mode. This is not a flip summon, however. A flip summon is a manual change done by the turn player in his or her main phase.
actually hdi, i asked a series of questions regarding face down attack position to the judge list once and if i recall correctly you may still flip summon a face down attack position monster to face up attack position. the monster isn't required to be in face down defense to flip summon it.
however i don't think i bothered asking if a monster in face down atk could be changed to face down def.
i'll see if i still have the email.
EDIT: apparently i can't find the email or the just list post, perhaps i asked this back before the judge list was moved, so i don't know how i would find it.
