quick question, could you use Return from the Different Dimension on a monster that's special summon only, like the Silent monsters or E-Hero Fusions etc.?

Those are NOT "Special Summon-only" monsters. They are NOMI monsters...VERY different from "Special Summon-only" which means cards that say "This card can only be Special Summoned by..." as opposed to Nomis which say "This card cannot be Special Summoned except by..."

So in terms of "Special Summon-only" monsters like Dark Necrofear, you CAN use Return from the Different Dimension and other cards to Special Summon them back UNLESS...

A.) The card specifically states they can't be Special Summoned in some way (like from the Graveyard, as stated on XY, YZ, Xz and XYZ)

B.) It was NOT properly Special Summoned already (returned to your hand and then discarded or something).


In terms of Nomi monsters, no, you CANNOT Special Summon them back since the ONLY method of Special Summoning they allow for them is the method printed on the card. The only other way would be if a card effect allows you to ignore the summoning conditions like Level Up! and Level Modulation.

If Sould of Purity and Light was properly summoned first then yes you would be able to use RftDD on it.

As long as it was properly Special Summoned AND sent there from the field somehow (since, obviously, if it gets returned to your hand or Deck, its Special Summoning was "Reset")

don't worry Half, I know all this, I was curious about it because I read in the official rule book that you could bring back any special summon only monster only when it was summoned properly so I wanted to double check to make sure that I wasn't reading anything crazy

yeah, you were reffering specifically to nomi monsters, which are a world of difference from special summon only monsters.

the rule book is right, all special summon only monsters can be summoned from the grave/RFP if they were summoned properly first (excluding specific conditions in text such as xyz)

but nomi monsters are not special summon only monsters. and do not benefit from that rule.

Only exceptions to that rule being LV monsters with Level Up! and Level Modulation and even Level Modulation requires the Nomi to have been "properly" Special Summoned first (by the effect of the previous LV).

ok I thought so, if that's the case, then I got railroaded then, I played a dude with an armed dragon deck a few days back and got beat down, could've beat him but it was no holds barred, he used monster reborn on an armed dragon lv 10, I knew that he couldn't do it, but he pulled out a rulebook on me lol, I had to double check this one to be sure

Just tell him to read the text next time and then explain what was explained here for why.

Basically any special summon-only monster past AST is a NOMI.
