Yet another reason -NOT- to trust a price guide for a card game.*warning: Rant*
Hey everyone.
Like most of you, I am a huge collector. I've been collecting comics for 17 years. I've collected every game I've ever gotten into (exception of "Poke`mon" and "Heroclix"...got out of those due to the companies` ####ty tactics of ethics). So, being a collector, I have become accustomed to trusting price guides and learning how to "haggle" for the best possible deal. But, as with the newest issue of Scrye, I have yet another reason to hate gaming price quides.
Like many, I had to purchase the newest Scrye (cover date:September 2004, 10th anniversary issue #75). I bought it soley for the "Malefic Grenade" promo and the new Team Bonuses. I tossed the magazines to the sie (I bought 4) after I got my cards and studied all the Yu Yu Hakusho information inside. Then, as I was creating a new trade thread, I decided to get alittle advice from the magazine's price guide.
Nothing too out of the ordinary, except for maybe the foiled Team Cards from 'Gateway' being $11.00+ each (anyone want to buy a set? Only $121....lmao. See? Stupid). But as my eyes scrolled down the final row on page 134 "Promo Cards". And what should my eyes find..."Yusuke: Raizen's Successor" for $30.00.
Now what the hell?! $30 for a card that hasn't come out yet? And judging from the previous card prices (such as "Hiei: Determined Warrior", "Mist Shinobi", "Epic Tales", ect) only the harder to obtain promos are in the $25+ range.
SO, how does an "easily obtained card by everyone" vaule so much, especially when it isn't released yet?
Agreed Cide. I never go with price guides. I go with the average price that people are selling them for. I would mostly only buy price guids or magazines for the cards. For just about all of the info inside them, you can find them on the internet for free. So I dont bother, thank you for informing us of this. I dont know, I believe that they want to make it high demand to make money.
Yu Yu Hakusho isn't a game that depends on price guides. Some spirits can outvalue ghosts in some trades. The value of cards in this game is based on playability.
Well personaly Ive never even taken the time to look at one of those price guides that make no sense
No matter what that price guide says I no for a fact I can get that card one way or another ... just the other day some kid was quitting to start Marvel ... I was lucky enough to have some money on me purchasing 3 Halts for 30$
Ive seen some extremly low prices on many sites such as an I'm Callin' You Out for 3$ or 3 Armor Of Clays for 5$ (When they 1st came out!)
I'm not saying thats what there worth but its realy easy to get cards at realy low prices if the timeing is right and your luck is high.
