I believe that there are several other cases where you would wish to perplex up or down defense to work with Defend. One other example I heard of is perplexing up your Invisible Girl who is adjacent to your Black Panther (or some other character) who is in danger of being hit by your own splash damage. Perplexing up Invisible Girl's defense so she can share it with BP means your less likely to hit your own characters.

Is perplex treated the same way with Stealth that Outwit is? Meaning, if IG is in Hindering, I obviously can't see her to perplex her (unless this is incorrect), but if I am next to her can I perplex her at that point (assuming she is still in hindering)?
I believe stealth is an optional power that you can turn off to be seen for your own perplex power, then stealth comes back on on your next turn.

It is referring that a player can use his "cheesy" 11 Con Artists to Perplex down Rookie IG's DV from 18 to 7 which would effect her Defend Power.
isn't defend optional also. So if you perlexed IG girls defence down to lower adjacent bases couldn't IG turn off the optional power of defend?

Sandman, Perplex requires LOF as well so as long as Invisible Girl is stealthed you can not perplex her (even if you are adjacent to her).
littlebigguy, stealth is optional and if you turn it off it comes back on at the end of the current turn (not your next turn).
Defend is not only optional it says the adjacent friendly character "may" use this character's defense, not that they "have" to. But if you have someone with a 14 defense and Invisible Girl with an 18 you can perplex her down to 15 so she can only share that and not the whopping 18.

Originally posted by Heretic Also keep in mind that if you shut off stealth in order to perplex, you are then subject to range attacks and probabliity control. FYI.
True but you are only subject to one or the other depending on when you turn off stealth. If you turn it off during your turn then you are subject to probability control. If you turn it off during your opponent's turn you are subject to ranged attacks but not probability control (since probability control has been changed such that you can only force the player who's turn it currently is to re roll).

I was the one who originally emailed wizkids about this question. I had just started the game and did not know that perplex did not last past your own turn. (I was trying to make a super cheesy Invisible Girl team.) Anyway, when they sent a response they seemed to make a big deal about it, but my then I realized that I could not use ppx to give all my guys a 22 defense.
So in short, the FAQ mentions the transitive properties of perplex because of a question I asked before I fully knew all the rules. Hope this helps.

No. That's still considered a modifier to the attack and the defend power will be ignored. Support is straight number to number, no way around it.
