thank god for qualifiers and regionals, because those rankings dont reflect how good you are necessary, but how many events you play in. if you knew a judge, you could hold events everyday....
I am a good friend of AmaroRay's and am ranked 2nd. Most of our points came from the mall tour. They held multiple tournaments per day. If you attended both days, 12 tournaments were easy to enter.
Sunman222 - That's not entirely true. Your ranking reflects the people you have beaten and lost to. So if you play in a tournament every day and beat the same people, you will gain virtually nothing. If you beat someone much better than you, your ranking will skyrocket. If you notice, I played in two less tournaments than he did, but still have a higher ranking. Just goes to show how the number of tournaments you play in is not better thanb beating better people.
Regardless, playing more matches will gain you more points, assuming you win most of them. Sorry, but 12 events is gonna gain you way more points than 2 or 3 events, regardless of how many times you beat the same person. The ranking system is a hugely complicated formula i've been told and incompasses more than just beating someone who's higher than you.
My point is still there, the rankings aren't necessary a good indicator of how good a player you really are. Why? Your only playing people in your area. The regional rankings are a decent indicator, but global, continental, and even state rankings make not indicate how good you are.
Bigger tournaments such as regionals and qualifiers are better indicators, because the competition is far greater than that found at your local card store and at a mall event.
Basically, whenever they had 8 people, they'd sit you down at a table and have you play in a single elimination tournament (winner of one game goes on to the next round). So there were 3 matches per event. You had to win three games to win the tournament. Because of this, tournaments lasted all day.
You got a hat if i remember correctly from other threads.
Anywho, the DCI ranking is usually a good indicator because of the expanded format of the formula... It has the basic...
My rating + (Opponent's ranking*I/Games i've played or something)
to generalize, where I is equal to the Match score (2 for a 2-0 win, 1 for a 2-1 win, -1 for a 1-2 loss, and -2 for a 0-2 loss) at least that's the formula I've been told by the Judge closeby. He couldn't tell me the exact specifics, but i'm sure if you look at the FAQ on http://www.thedci.com you'll find some answers.
While i'm at it, I have heard rumors that suggest that there WILL NOT be a Tour for Duel Masters. Just a rumor, don't panic. However, you may see a National-style tournament circut of some form, if we're lucky.
The mall tour was free. There were different events. The one that boosted your DCI ranking was the darkness arena. This was where the 8-person tournaments I mentioned previously were. For beating two people, you were awarded a Stampeding Longhorn promo, and for winning the tournament you got a free pack. There was also a king-of-the-hill tournament in the nature arena where you had to win 4 matches (best 2 out of 3) to get a hat and a Fire Sweeper Burning Hellion promo.
