The person who came in second place at our 5 Civilizations tournament was playing what looked like a pretty poor deck, but actually did amazing for him, giving him an undefeated streak till he lost in the finals (2-1) to Beastfolk, although the games were amazingly close. We had 21 people who attended, went 4 rounds top 8. Popular varients of decks were Beastfolk, Snake Attack, Black Discard, Alcadeias/Diamond Cutter, and Ballom Control. The name of the deck is LAN (Basic "Light And Nature" Deck) with only 6 non creature spells. Here's the list:
It can obviously be tweaked alot (Supporting Tulip?), but a few of the obvious choices he explained weren't part of what the deck was designed to do. Natural Snare, which was the first thought that came to mind, doesn't do too much, since you're creatures are your main sources of removal. Aeris towers over pretty much everything. What Zach (person playing it) did many times was turn 2 3000 Blocker, turn 3 Cactus/Butterfly, turn 4 Oracle/Tap/Kill, turn 5 Deathblade/Aeris, turn 6 Awe/wipe out team. The basic premise of the deck would have you think it doesn't look all that great, and you might be saying the deck rarely ever gets draws like that, but turns out since he doubled up on all the key turn 2-4 plays, having 8 cards to fill those gaps each, he usually gets exactly what he needs every time.
Sword Butterfly trades with Barkwhip (which caught me off guard in the finals, +3000 power attacker  ) And Exploding Cactus it almost always a 4000 for 3 drop. The deck is ammune to alot of popular choices around here (Snake Attack, Discard, Alcadieas and Ballom decks oddly enough since Supporting Tulip was in the deck) And it can compete head on with Beast Folk amazingly, as Aeris can oust even FDF.
Anyways, after reviewing the deck, I think it actually has quite a bit of potential. I wouldn't leave it as is, but I'm going to test it and see what would make it better. Any suggestions?
More Deathblades and Aeris. Then lose Tulip. Otherwise it looks pretty evil. I am a bit confused as to how he manages to survive without hand advantage. Drop the Amber Grass for either Mist Rias, or Magris.
