They way I understand it, Demotion can be used to get level 7 or higher monsters out without tributeing 2 monsters, or a 5 or 6 level with only one tribute, because it's an equip card, I've had several people insist that if demotion is destroyed,the card is destroyed. Demotion dosen't say anything like that,it simply states a card equiped to it has it's level reduced by 2. If anything, wouldn't the monster go back to my hand? I was under the impression that if the monster is on the field, destroying demotion dose nothing. Someone please settle this for me! I want to use it how it's intended to be used. :confused:

Well, right off the bat, you're using it wrong. You cannot use it to summon Level 7 or 8 monsters with only one Tribute, or summon Level 5 or 6 monsters with no Tributes. Nothing on the card text or rulings allows you to do this. The monster must already be on the field before you can equip it.

Now, to answer your question, you are correct. Nothing about Demotion says it will destroy an equipped monster if it is destroyed. I don't know where those people got that information, maybe they were thinking of another card?

Just in case you had any other questions, the card you're confusing Demotion with is Cost Down.

yeah, demotion is really only good for things like gravity bind and level limit a/b and other things that care about the level of a monster on the field.
