These both do more-or-less the same thing... but which one is better in the current meta?
Karma Cut(Normal Trap): Discard 1 card from your hand. Remove from play 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. If there is a card(s) in your opponent's Graveyard with the same name as the removed monster, also remove from play that card(s).
Bottomless Trap Hole(Normal Trap): When your opponent Normal Summons, Flip Summons, or Special Summons a monster(s) with an ATK of 1500 or more, destroy and remove from play the monster(s).
Now, Bottomless doesn't have a cost, but has an activation requirement(the Summon of a 1500+ ATK monster that isn't Jinzo, Tenkabito Shien, or E-Hero Wildheart) that depends on your opponent. It can hit multiple monsters.
Karma Cut has a cost(1 card from your hand), but it can hit any face-up monster your opponent has, of any ATK level, no matter how long it's been out(except Jinzo, Tenkabito Shien, or E-Hero Wildheart), AND will remove monsters of the same name from your opponents GY as well.
My question is if the 1-card discard cost of Karma Cut outweigh the ability to kill any opponent's f/u monster?
Or is BTH better, even with the limit of a 1500+ being Summoned?
I could see Karma Cut working better for Gadgets than anything, considering they have the extra cards to get rid of, but Benisben25 is right about it being a 142, however, aren't there cards that are played not because they can get you physical advantage, but turn the tide of the game (Giant Trunade, anyone?)? I'd say it's worth playtesting and I'll look into it (I've forgot all about Karma Cut until now). Thanks for bringing it up, OddSpirit.
Karma Cut is good for the option of going on the offense when you dont need to defend, but in that case I would rather use Compulsory Evacuation Device. Not only do I not pay any costs, but I can also use it for other methods like saving my monsters from card effects, as well as going on the offense.
Karma Cut would be a great card if people ran a lot of monsters in three copies and the graveyard was still important. I mean, if it actually payed off to remove those monsters in the graveyard. That could offset the cost. But since these cards are usually used on big threats anyway, and the bigger cards are rarely used in multiples (monarchs don't count since its basically vanilla once it hits the graveyard, you can't premy or call it for an effect), BTH is simply a better card.
I could see you using Karma Cut against gadgets, but then ben's argument comes in again, you don't want to use a 142 against gadgets.
There are, but there are very few, and this isn't one of them.
I'm well aware that it isn't exactly momentous like Giant Trunade, as where one activation can mess some one up, but like almost every card in the game, just depends on the scenario.
This card does the job that a bunch of 141 removal can do, but in a Nobleman kind of way (only on face-up monsters, however), but hitting the copies of the cards in the Graveyard instead of removing them from the Deck. And it can take on Vampire Lord and Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys or anything other self-recurring monster at any point in the game (except when you can't afford the discard), unlike Bottomless Trap Hole, where you have to wait until the summon. And in the case of a tribute monster, if they didn't tribute a floater or gain any advantage from its summon (I.E. tributing Cyber Dragon for Mobius, considering you have Karma Cut is your only set S/T), it could work out as an equal trade and get rid of copies of the card in the Graveyard. Ultimately, you shouldn't rule a card out because it has a bad trade off that isn't in your favor.
Bottomless is better for the simple reason that it can stop a Cyber Dragon or a Monarch. All of which are very popular in tournaments now-a-days.
How exactly does it stop a Monarch?
I tribute for Monarch, you BTH it, I still get effect and gain advantage. How did you stop it? Do you consider it being destroyed and removed from play stopping it? The immediate damage was dealt to you and the Monarch served its purpose. So how does it "stop" the Monarch? BTH doesn't ever stop a Monarch of the Monarch's effect resolves with effect.
But yeah, BTH is better than Karma Cut. Btw everyone, Raigeki Break > Karma Cut.

I stand corrected to the fifth degree of correction. Thank you for clearing that up for me Tkwiget. I like knowing when I replied to something and offered no help at all.:disappoin
I want a bottom less traphole, but i love my karma cut and i'm suprised i haven't been hearing about it. When i first got it in a pack, i immediately fell in love with it, especially when you have Sacred Pheonix in your hand. I've dealt alot of damage with that combo. Plus, karma cut is almost a must for any dark world deck; get rid of their monster for ever, and someone one of your own. Great deal indeed.

Last I checked Discard costs do NOT trigger Pheonix because it wasn't destroyed, it was discarded.
