Hi, I am a fan of the Dimension Wall card, I think of it as having another magic cilynder (of course, without negating the attack)
Well, my question is about that card, can I activate it when my opponentīs monster attacks directly to my life points??
I ask this dumb question because a "judge" in a local tournament said that I have to have a monster on my side of the field so I could activate the card. I trust the "judge" and I know he does know the important rules, but I also know that he does not know every rule and he can make a mistake. And I say "judge" because heīs not an official Yugioh Judge.
Also, as I activated Dimension Wall when my opponent attacked he told me that I could not activate it and I had to send the card to the graveyard because I tried to activate a card in a situation when it couldnīt be activated.
I hope you could reply to me with an explanation I could tell to the "judge" for the next time I see him.
I searched the official Yugioh webpage and it doesnīt respond my particular question.
You may activate Dimension Wall in response to a direct attack on your lifepoints. Your opponent will take all damage from the attack.
In addition, if you illegally activate a card, it would return to wherever you activated it from (in the case of dimension wall, if you activated illegally, it would return face down on the field.) If you activate a card and everything is legal but you want to take it back, that is when you are stuck with the consequences.
I happen to remember that my "judge" told me that just because the card implies that the monster has to be battling I have to have a monster on my side of the field.
Does the concept or wording "a monster is battling" also involves when attacking to my life points directly??
A monster "battles" when it goes into the damage step. This happens whether or not there is another monster on the field or not. There are some cards that say "battles a monster" (i.e. Chainsaw Insect), but Dimension Wall does not care if it is a direct attack or two monsters battling.
