Ok this dude I know in real life thinks a single spear cretin can keep getting itself back... and I know thats not the case but I want people of the realms here to go ahead and explain why so I can show him this thread.
Now why good people of the realms does that not work?
think of it like being kycoo. kycoo can't remove the monster he just sent to the graveyard. it's a good analogy, but i'm sure someone has a better explanation than that

Nope. Here is a couple of posts from the judges list. One of the questions has a familiar author :D

Actually, it's not a good analogy. Kycoo is a Trigger effect that occurs when damage is inflicted to the opponent. Damage is inflicted BEFORE the destroyed monster is sent to the grave, which is why you can't choose the destroyed monster to be removed. It hasn't actually reached the graveyard yet.
I hope we aren't just giving said friend more ammo as opposed to actually convincing them that we can't play Spear Cretin in that manner.
Treykura
"You can't play Spear Cretin because if not then Night Assailant would bring itself back with its effect as well (not to mention it would kill off a monster before leaving the field)"
Friend
"So you mean Night Assailant works like Spear Cretin...alright!!"
*proceeds to use NA to fetch itself in their next duel*
How about just telling them the obvious: "You can't play it like that because if not it would be a popular strategy and we would have heard about it a long time ago. Please just trust me, I am not messing with you."
