While you can equip it, it will have no effect on Kay'est.

I have to disagree with this. The only thing Ring of Magnetism does to the equipped monster is decrease it's ATK and DEF by 500. The attack redirection affects the opponent/opponent's monster (I forget which is considered to do the attacking).
Just like having a warrior equipped with RoM, and a Marauding Captain on your field. All attacks are still drawn to the warrior that has the RoM even though the Cap'n says they can't.
Or the fact that Inaba the White Rabbit cannot attack directly, but it's attacks will still be drawn to the RoM monster. It affects the attacker, not the equipped monster.
If guardian Kay'est is equipped with RoM, it should still become the target of any attack.

Which is correct... i'm guessing Magus is talking about the decrease... now i'm just guessing nevertheless =P

Which is why I stated the answer the way I did.

I was trying to look for a ruling with Legendary Fisherman (since it shares an effect similar to that of Kay'est) however there were none. I do believe that the attack would still be directed to the equipped monster, but I would rather not give an opinion if it could be wrong, so I would rather state a ruling that I can give with certainty.
I leave all the questionable stuff to the rest of you guys.

I still think the opponent would be unable to attack. Guardian Kay'Est Effect prevents a monster from attacking her specifically, and Ring of Magnetism does not override her effect, even though it tells the opponent that they must choose her as a target, they cannot, so therefore, they cannot attack period.
I have the understanding that Ring of Magnetism overrides the effects, if it overrides Command Knight I don't see why it should be any different for Ka'yest.
If you control a "Command Knight" equipped with "Ring of Magnetism", and another monster, your opponent can and must select "Command Knight" as an attack target if he chooses to attack.

Exactly, from my understanding Ring of Magnetism cannot create a lock, as it doesn't do anything until the attack has already been declared.
Since Guardian Kay'est's and The Legendary Fisherman's effects do not affect your ability to declare an attack, you can still do so. The only real question is if Ring of Magnetism would draw the attack to them, or you would still continue your attack at planned (direct, or against another legal monster). From the way RoM works with locking effects I would assume that the attack would be drawn to Kay'est/Fisherman.
