Welcome duelists. On this day as I sit in front of the monitor, I ponder about what I should do for an article. Today I think we should share with you, last weekend's winner at the local tournament I went to. This deck beat Zombie's Perfect Circle, and my own designed deck (which I may share some day, but most think it doesn't make sense). Today I'll share with you, (now named) "R.D's"Gravekeepers deck. Yes I suppose I'll talk about anotherway to go with spellcasters this week too.
What stunned me the most about this deck was the fact that in game 2 and 3, I was ALWAYS left trying to do anything in my power to avoid a Royal Tribute, only to realize later that day that he sides them out to keep from worrying about counters and dead draws with it. On top of that, he lays claim to having 8 ways to search for his Necrovally, although I'm not sure how, I think he only has 7 (counting Magician of Faith). SO the likilyhood of a turn one tribute was VERY possible. But one thing I found very hard to deal with is the fact that if I don't have Torrential Tribute or something of the sort, I'm gonna be playing with have my life points! The usual first play tends to include setting a Gravekeeper Spy, which in turns, results in a Spy, Spearsoldier and Assailent next turn...all with 500 extra attack. So if I go Defensive, I get runed over by Spear Soldier, if I go aggressive, Assailent makes sure that my monster (if bigger) is changed to a mode that will leave it getting killed, so I'm almost sure to take 3700+ damage.
Even if I Vortex after that point, I'm still left at a major disadvantage playing with only half my lifepoints. And if he sets any s/t, you know I'm gonna be seeing Rite of Spirit. Which means hello Gravekeeper 2000 attacker. Which reminds me, because they have 2000 attack, R.D. included Deck Devestation Virus, just to keep those little guys down, and usually they're good for getting Card Advantage, (Crystal Seer, Magician of Faith, that sort).
The next thing I would like to bring up, was his choice on how to deal with monsters...one of them anyways. Forced Back. I thought this pretty silly at first. But when I was sure going the Jinzo way to safely over run his forces was best, I reconsidered the usfulness of the little return card, as...once again, I had a nice clear field, and the other chuck of my Lifepoints were up for the taking. Saddening to play it safe just to get it to backfire. Generally, I'd like to say now, Gravekeepers Guard, Vassel, and Curse have no place in this deck. You can fetch for so much better cards in this deck. Of course there other nice cards that are non-Gravekeeper. But they tend to be very standard in any deck.
The last thought I'd like to leave is that whether you like the article or not, is that Gravekeeper's Spellcaster type status alows it to have a bit of an open range to the support that they have. I look at Magical Dimention first when I say this. But there are others too.
I apologize for the short article, but I felt the need to share it with you anyways. Have fun everyone.
I know what you mean about Gravekeepers.I have a deck that runs almost exactly like you described (Royal Tribute/DDV) and it is an amazing deck.Theey just have some issues with Raiza/PWWB and the fact RFP seems to overshadow it.
i dont know how, but some how you just got me to wanna play gravekeepers again. good job, i like it. i just dont feeling like playing my Zombie PCircle or ZOmbie LaDD Control anymore. wanting the feeling of royal tributeing my opponent is a good feeling...i like it....
