X = Active fig
O = Opponent's fig
C = Clear terrain
Suppose X successfully breaks away. Since a fig cannot move through a square occupied by an enemy, can X move to C?
Now suppose O is a barrier marker or other blocking terrain. Can X move to C? Or is it possible to pen a fig in by alternating barriers with 2 barrier figs?
I know that LOF from X to C would be blocked, but does this apply to movement? Thanks!
If both O's were blocking terrain, then the diagonal between them would be considered blocking, as well, for both movement and LoF. X couldn't move to C.
However, diagonally adjacent characters, or the diagonal between one figure and one square of blocking terrain, is blocking only for LoF. Movement is still allowed, and C can go through just fine.
She said that the blocking terrain kept me from attacking vision with quicksilver. I had never heard anyone dispute this. I pulled out the FAQ and could find nothing to resolve it.
I did not want to spend the time pulling out the rule book, etc.
The judge was not available for this.
How would you have handled it....I just let it slide since I was winning anyway.
Where is the definitive ruling on adjacent figs and set up like this?
The rules only concern LOF issues. When attacking with close combat, you do not need LOF, only to be adjacent. Now, if the clear terrain (in your example above) was blocking terrain, they would be considered 1 solid piece of blocking terrain. As such, Vision could not attack Quicksilver. If the clear terrain had another character in it (friendly or opposing, it doesn't matter), then LOF would be blocked (as described in the FAQs) but Vision is still considered adjacent, and could still attack with close combat.
Hope this helps you out....
EDIT: oops, forgot the actual question! In your example, Vision could attack Quicksilver with either a close or ranged attack.
