I just got finished watching Ep. 26 of 5D's and I happened to see a card that sparked my interest called Hyper Synchron. I checked out yugi-wiki and found out that this will soon be out in the OCG and therefore our TCG with time. It is a 4 star warrior/synchro/effect monster with 1600 atk and 800 def with the following effect: "If this card is sent to the Graveyard for the Synchro Summon of a Dragon-Type Monster, the ATK of that Synchro Monster is increased by 800, and it is Removed from Play during the End Phase." Is this card going to end up being broken just because its a lvl 4 synchro, or will it be simply another option for synchro decks?
1.) Wrong section. It won't be out a while in english, so this belongs in the OCG Strategies forum. It comes out CRMS/Crimson Crisis, which is after CSOC/Crossroads of Chaos, which itself is not even out until November (same time as CRMS in Japan), so it probably won't be out until like...January 2009 for the US.
2.) It's a Tuner. Not a Synchro.
CRMS-JP003
Hyper Synchron (Tuner)
Light/Machine/4/1600/800
If this card is sent to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon a Dragon-Type Synchro Monster, increase the ATK strength of that Synchro Monster by 800 points, and remove it from play during the End Phase.
3.) It's FAR, FAR from broken at all. EXTREMELY far. Heck, it's ANIME effect is better overall; still only worked for Dragon-Type Synchros (which makes it very restrictive as it is), the Dragon KEPT the 800 ATK while it was on the field and it couldn't die in battle. Now, it's really just a 1-turn 800 ATK boost for a Dragon-Synchro that kills it at the end of the turn. The only Dragon-Type Synchros there are being...
Stardust Dragon
Red Daemon's Dragon
Black Rose Dragon
Ancient Fairy Dragon (CRMS)
Power Tool Dragon (possibly. CRMS)
Chain Dragon
Light-End Dragon (Japanese)
Dark-End Dragon (Japanese)
...and out of them, the only ones that'd really make any SMALL use of it would be Red Daemon's Dragon (beatstick) or Chain Dragon (beatstick). The others would be pretty pointless to use it with;
Stardust Dragon will probably end up Tributing itself anyways, thus losing the ATK gain anyways.
Black Rose Dragon will mostly be used to blow everything up anyways (unless you're a Plant-user, THEN you might make some SMALL use of the 800 ATK with its 2nd effect)
Ancient Fairy Dragon really has nothing to do with attacking, but more defending while swarming.
Power Tool Dragon is about Equips, so you could simply get an Equip to make its ATK higher if you want (and its 2nd effect does NOT protect it from Hyper Synchron's removal as it only prevents itself from being "destroyed" by sending an Equip Magic Card equipped to itself).
Light-End Dragon and Dark-End Dragon you'd WANT to keep on the field to keep using their effects.
...and in general, you can get higher (and "permanent") ATK increases with other cards; United We Stand, Mage Power, Axe of Despair, Synchro Strike, etc.
Actually Stardust is the best one to do it with, since if you don't use it for Stardust and tribute the Stardust, then the Synchro is just going to be a 1 turn card. Or it would be good for Black Rose.
However, it says nothing about only working for Dragon. It says if you do, the ATK and removal will happen. But it doesn't say you can only use it for a Dragon.
I know that, but in terms of the overall effect usefulness, it only works for Dragons and it's really not that good anyways.
There would be no point to using the effect with Stardust or Black Rose Dragon since they will probably be gone that turn anyways because of their effects unless you're finishing off with Black Rose Dragon's 2nd effect in a Plant-Deck for 3400 damage.
So, in the end, all it's primarily good for is being a Level 4 Tuner. Effect-wise, I would've preferred the anime effect overall. They could've even IMPROVED it without making it too broken or abusable too (like many cards). Why they had to NERF it so much is beyond me.
Even the anime effect wouldn't exactly have made the Dragon-Type Synchro "invincible", and the chances of something actually being able to kill it in battle in general after the 800 ATK boost would be slim to none anyways (from a real life perspective anyways). Even the lowest Dragon-Type Synchro (Ancient Fairy Dragon at 2100 ATK) would've been 2900 ATK; Judgment Dragoon or Heraclenos being the only monsters seen around enough that could best it in battle after the effect. Everything else would've been beyond them, which would be leaving effects; which is what is usually used to take down obstacles like them anyways, making the "cannot be destroyed in battle" part pretty pointless.
You would've thought with the name "Hyper" Synchron, it'd have some effect that was BETTER than Junk, Nitro, AND Turbo Synchron. Next, there'll probably be a "Hyper Warrior" with a good effect in the anime, then it'll get nerfed the same way in real life ><
^ I agree. I think definitely have been a lot better for a Lv.4 tuner. This reminds me.... isn't there a Lv.4 Tuner coming out for Crossroads of Chaos?
And here are my thoughts on this card:
Emergency Teleport and Krebons are still too dominant in the current meta for Hyper Synchron to have any use even though it's a Lv.4 Tuner.
I like the fact that the effects are only applied if you synchro summon a Dragon-type so you can still use it to synchro summon any non-Dragon type monster and maybe later on someone might find a way to make this card broken but Emergency Teleport and Krebons is going to be very tough to compete against.
I also don't like it's stats and being 1600 ATK and a machine--I can't think of anything at the moment how that could be an advantage. Hmm... what does everyone think about Soul Rope? -- Any potential there?
Well, being 1600 is obviously understandable; coupled with being a Level 4 Tuner, they don't want it to be easily searchable given the high use of high Level Synchros. The only other Level 4 Tuner (and is searchable) is Japanese from Duel Terminal, Frembell Magical, which probably won't be out for a while.
And Line of the Soul/"Soul Rope" has been pretty useful for me, depending on the Decktype. It's another card that really requires experimenting to find good uses instead of JUST reading the effect and guessing. Can't work if the monster dies in battle (Damage Step prevents it), but it's still easy to activate otherwise.
