I know this is going to sound weird, But I need to know where I can find as much historical fluf information as possible. My English teacher told us that we are to write a 5 to 10 page paper about ANYTHING we want. He also said that he didn't want the usual "English paper" papers. So I thought... Writing a research paper on the history of MechWarrior: Dark Age wouldn't be considered an "English Paper" paper. I asked my teacher and he said it was ok as long as I can find enough information to be able to write a 5 to 10 page paper. so now I'm trying to find as many sources of information as I can find. If I can't find enough sources I'll hyave to abort the idea all together. :( So, I thought the people here on this forum would be able to help me. If you have any information, or if you know where I can find information. please post it here or pm me. thanks!
Actually. The easiest bet would probably to go into the history of one of the Successor States. The huge House books are available for PDF download free at the Classic Battletech site.
IIRC, the titles to two I've found very useful are the Inner Sphere Sourcebook and another called Shattered Sphere. I don't have them at hand at the moment, so the titles could be slightly off.
I suggest that you write a paper detailing the FedCom Usurpation. Trace Katherine's rise to power, starting with the death (called a heart attack, but it looks suspicious to me) of Hanse "The Fox" Davion, and ending with her deposition of Yvonne and siezing of the FedSuns throne (she was already Archon of the new Lyran Alliance, having seceded from the FedCom earlier).
You could even do a bit about the Civil War, and her eventual retreat and defection to the crusader Clan Wolf and Vlad Ward.
Actually, Hanse DID die of a heart attack. Victor and Galen/Jerry were right beside him, with him when he died. It's in Lost Destiny.
Anyway, you should do the creation of the Clans, starting with the Exodus and ending with the Battle of Tukkayid, or the Trial of Refusal for the invasion. Besides, if your english teacher also knows any history about the Russian Reveloution, he should recoginze the name Keresnsky. Specifically, Alexandr Kerensky...
Actually, if you can find it (eBay, etc.), the Leatherbound Collector's Edition of FASA's "BattleTech Compendium: The Rules of Warfare" includes a brief history of the Inner Sphere (through the year 3057) by Michael A. Stackpole himself.
I have one of these myself (signed, #437 of 1000), and Stackpole's historical synopsis is seven full pages in length (very small type). It is quite comprehensive (up to the year 3057, of course).
Finding 5 pages of historical data should be easy enough (if you have a computer - their are literally hundreds of battletech sites out there) limiting it to 10 pages is going to be a little more difficult. You may want to limit it more than just the history of mechwarrior.
