I want to start this thread, not as a general discussion for the new rule change proposals, but as a discussion and 'THANK YOU WIZKIDS' thread for opening up a beta-type playtesting for us as a community!
Yes, Wizkids hears us, and they do care.
IMO beta-playtesting is going to be huge success for them. Thousands of players at hundreds of venues (remember 8000 played FW) providing product information for FREE through their BM's will provide FASTER and more ACCURATE game-mechanic results than WK could ever pay people to do at headquarters.
After all, that's why software designers open up beta's to customers, right? Cause it's not feasable to test every condition with a handful of employees, on a time and budget constraint.
I feel so good about the way things are going for MW now- SOUND OFF HERE!
And thank you wizkids for having the battlemasters do the voting. This way, we know that there's some playtesting envolved, and not some fanboy's first impressions
I do hope the BM's post their players' thoughts, and not there own though.
I've been here right here from the beginning, as Wassup. I changed to this screenname (i lost interest in my own name, lol) during the spring. I've put a lot of my life in this game, and it truly makes me glad that to see it prosper.
I think having the player base at large actively playtesting the proposed rule mods is a superb idea. However, while WK's intent may be laudable, I have doubts about the implementation.
I went to an 'official' event this weekend (most of my MW play is done at home) for the express purpose of helping to playtest the proposed rule mods. While some of the new rule proposals in question were used during the matches, the BM never once asked any of the players for their opinions on how they felt the new rules effected the game (I'll admit, I may have missed him talking to other players, but it's a very small venue and we only had 5 players present, so I'd think it was unlikely I missed a discussion about the rules). In any event, I personally was never asked for my input, and I explicitly told the BM that was one of the chief reasons I was there.
While I respect the BM in question, and assume that he's properly "doing his duty" and reporting his findings/opinions back to WK, I'm a bit disappointed that player input wasn't actively solicited. This could have been done either this or a similar forum, or by requiring the BMs to get players to fill out some sort of survey form. If player 'playtesting' of the proposed rule mods continues over the next couple weeks/months, perhaps there's time to institute a more organized plan to compile player input.
Woo Hoo! I am very impressed with the beta testing of the rules, hopefully we can get most of them implimented.... I have to admit with the expansion of the "pogwarrior" mentality there was a group of us locally thinking seriously about just starting up an unoffical (if necessary) game club running with "house rules" that are amazingly like the proposed rule changes... Only thing missing is something to deal with the uber-charge, but we couldn't think of any really good way to do that either :)
But great that the changes are (possibly) coming and that the company is responding to player input!
Sure, WOULDN'T WE ALL like to see COW-Drop and Chargemonkeytude addressed, but hey, one step at a time, huh? What I love about these proposed amendments is that their intent is clear - fix imbalance with minimum of rules tampering. The basic mechanics of this game rock with a capital kay, and sticking to the spirit of those rules is paramount.
Love all the amendments so far except the Arty one, but hey, guys, this is outstanding. Walls (or the boards on 'em) do have ears...

Why do I have to be the devil's advocate all the time? :)
Software companies ignore the vast majority of beta-test results.
Out of every couple hundered bugs sent in, one might be worth more investigation.
Beta-testing has a specific role.. it's usually relegated to finding hardware incompatibilities, or for stress testing.
This is why I am rather sad that WizKids is using a poll feedback system. With a poll, you lose all relevant surrounding information. It turns into a popularity contest, which isn't useful feedback.
For instance, to continue the software analogy.. if I had a poll that asked "Who likes this Search feature?" and 90% of respondents said they loved it, but 10% said they hated it, then people would be lead to believe that the Search feature was great.
What would be missing would be the important information that those 10% of people had the Search feature delete their hard drives and crash their computers. :)
Or I suppose, more relevant, in the game software environment, a good portion of the bugs received are "I think you should make (my favourite type of character) way more powerful than everyone else, by using my great ideas (which include letting him shoot death beams from his eyes)."
I'm sorry, but I don't want those people giving input into a poll. :)
I love that the proposed rules were posted for us to playtest. Examining the proposed rules showed me that individual(s) at WK definitely have an eye on their feedback boards and this site.
The WK MWDA game developers, regardless of the outcome, presented us with an excellent opportunity to have SOME input into how the game-we-love is played in the future
