i finished Service to the dead and i happened to hate the fact that in a Trial of Possesion for Earth, a merc came in to help fight in the middle of the trial. Also found it hard to believe that an alpha-strike from a packhunter destroyed the Kriya Wolf.
Delrio has no knowledge of the Clans and their practices, let alone Battletech at all.
Kriya Wolf and Kerensky ganged up on Ferrel. Any self respecting clan warrior would not have let Kriya interfere. And defently not double-teamed.
Kerensky fled from battle. Also a no-no.
And used weapons in an unaugumented Trail of Grievence.
The Steel Wolves are not Clansmen under Keresnky's leadership, I dont care what Delrio or Wizkids says, they dont act Clan-like.
Btw, an Alpha Strike is firing all your weapons at once, not "dumping power from the fusion reactor into it". More painful proof that Delrio has no idea what he is writing about.
And where was Paladin Levin in Terra's time of need? I don't even think he had his Atlas with him. It seems that the Republic was content to let Kerensky take Terra without a fight!
Where was the republic military? Evidently, while we made fun of Northwind having only two mechs on planet, the RotS had ZERO mechs, tanks, VTOLS, or infantry on Terra. They couldn't even scrounge up a kid with a rock and a pointy stick to defend Terra.
HEAVY DUTY SPOILERS....
<<<SPOILERS>>>
Ok, so Bishop's "alpha-strike" shut down Kriya Wolf's Tundra Wolf. Anastasia Wolf (does not deserve the Kerensky blood-name) ran from the fight. This leaves Jack in his Jupiter alone with Kriya. Are we to believe that he didn't capture it as fast as he captured the two ForestryMech MODs? Then, BR mercs had closed in on the SW dropships and let them escape? The HL let the SW escape. And then the Republic lets the SW escape. You would think that one of the three "armies" would have stopped them and at least jailed them. Then there's Paladin Crow. How is this man NOT dead? Tara Campbell would have made sure he was dead or had an infantry team capture him and bring him before a court.
I find it extremely hard to belive that any government would have NO armed forces defending such an important capitol like Terra, the captiol of the ENTIRE FRICKIN REPUBLIC!!
Unbeliveable plot line, not worthy of the BT name. This whole series goes down as the worst books to bear the Battletech/Mechwarrior name and mediocre Sci-Fi books in general. :(
I think it would have ended much better had Anastasia died in the end and at least somebody else could take control os the Steel Wolves, somebody who knows what their doning and doesn't have their own side fighting against them.
Who else was in the Steel Wolf wings, jockeying for leadership? I know the Spirit Cats are rife with competitors for command but I'm drawing a blank on the ambitious of the Steel Wolves.
If we campaign hard enough, like very serious letter writing campaigns, we might be able to influence how the MW universe proceeds in the next annual WK/FanPro BT universe summit. If we demand Kerensky's death, they might end up trying to kill her off next year and let someone else ascend to her place. I highly doubt Delrio will ever get to write another BT novel, so we won't have to worry about them fouling up another interesting characterization.
Hum, is this the part when I become afraid for the promised Falcons next year? :(
And I can understand them going with other authors to try and expand the fanbase, this was one of their purposes when advancing 60 years, to allow people to come into the universe without needing 30 books of backstory.
But treating the current fans with very poor books, that show an absolute disregard for the universe isn't a good way to do it.

For those of you fortunate to live in the USA and get the books on time please have some courtesy, give thoughts to others and realise that not everyone has access to this book and keep their thoughts to themselves for say, at least a month!!! ...not too much to ask, huh!
WK - Please, please, please realise that we are just the same wherever we live and therefore should not be treated differently. Can we all get our books on time please?
Why on earth would you read a thread title "Finished Service for the Dead" if you haven't read it yet? Doesn't the title alone tell you that there will likely be spoilers inside?

Unfortunately we might. Over on the CBT boards, Janna has mentioned that Delrio has "turned in an outline for a rockin' good book that I think you'll dig. Ain't nobody gonna be sittin' around waiting for anything in that book."
