Merc Sniper Arty
HL Regulator II Hovertank
Merc Balac
HL Donar
SW Padilla
SW J-37
3 SW Trike Squads
3 SS Laser Teams
1 SS Gnome BA
The SS infantry were one formation, the trikes another, and the J-37 carried the Padilla around.
Since there were only 4 people there (my buddy Nick, the BM Bull (sp) and August (both August and Bull are good vets, Nicks is a newbie I introduced to MW. Been playing for about two months now) and me) we only went two rounds, with the bye SS player (me and Nick were SS) playing a standard 400 versus the BM.
I won't give a play by play, but my Donar and my Balac each destoryed one of the DF Donars, the Salamander kicked the bucket when it went up against the Trikes, Arnis tried to take on everyone, only took salvaged the Sniper and killed the J-37 and Padilla. Arnis ended up salvage and totally surrounded when time ran out.
My buddy got destroyed by the BM.
I then got a straight 400 battle against the BM. He had:
Kevin Notashu (sp?)
2 SC Donars
3 SC Kages
To make a long story very short, everything but one Kage died, and I only lost a Trike, the J-37 and the Padilla.
After the battle he said I had an infantry advantage (since my Laser Team got two successful Pulse shots at him).
This is my first champtionship, my first night with two wins, and only my second and third wins against someone besides my buddy Nick in tourneys.
Oh, and I gave the Fellowship to Nick, to give him his third LE.
I'm definetely keeping this army, and I can't wait to use the Griffen. 2/14 Pulse....
Not bad, I won my mines or yours with
SS Locust
Merc Sniper
SS Partisan
SS Glory
SS Giggans
SS LE SRM Team
and another SS infantry, can't remember which
Won all three rounds, first beat a SW arby army, Second, beat a Liao fatty army, and third beat a dual BR Lego army..
I went 3-0 at a local venue that I had never played at before with the following army (SS unless otherwise noted):
Sniper
2x Fenrirs
Joust
Free Legion
Giggins (Fenrirs)
3x Hoverbikes
HL Tameka Pryer - Partisan AA
HL DI Schmidt
HL Donar Assault Helo
400 exactly
I figured I'd toss in some of everything - helo, arty, big tank, speed, AA, anti-personal... I guess just about everything but a mech....
Won 8 VCs, completely destroyed first two guys I played. They were both sporting mechs as their focus with some support. First one had a Targe (can't remember if it was unique or not), Glory tank and 2 Salamanders. Second one had "The Vede" and a few wussy infantry. Last match was a good one, he used 9 trikes, a minigun, Dagger Di, a laser battery and J100. I blew up a bunch of bikes while he took out my sniper and infantry.
I was very excited about how well I did considering this is only the 3rd time I've played in a tourney. Scored the Wasp - my choice, I am all about the SS and love collecting their pieces, not to mention using them. Three cheers for SS!!!!!
I am playing SS in mine or yours tommorrow, and i amgoing to run 3 BR legos , 1 JI100 Recovery (BR), and a laser team (SS). what do u think. My goal w/ this army is to move into base fast, so if he blows his mines, he will get hurt too
This month, I had wanted to play only for SS (one of my fav factions), but was asked to use my alternate Liao army for the Mines or Yours campaign. When I played SS in the Mile-High battle, I went faction pure. I won each of my rounds but fell some points behind the champion (also SS) player.
[background: I'm one of those players who usually wins most of his rounds but isn't as agressive as some when it comes to earning points.]
I wasn't too proud of SS winning though. They had it too easy with an extra order and a 100-point advantage. The SS player could do nothing and win by 100 points on VC 2! Add in the fact that Liao doesn't have the selection of Swordsworn and I don't see how anyone could think winning these games for SS was a big deal.
For Mines or Yours, I had brought the following Liao army (I always have an army for either side):
Elite Liao Targe
x2 Swordsworn AA Artillery
x2 Liao Fa Shih Battle Armor
Liao Salamander Battle Armor
To balance out the sides, I agreed to switch to Liao. I played three rounds and won each round and championship with this small army. The key was using building placement to create bottle necks and to place the mines at those points. The two SS AAA's faced two or three artillery pieces in each round. I regret that these were the only non-faction pieces in my army, but they did a great job of neutralizing superior numbers of infantry AND opposing artillery.
My targe's awe ability only seemed to succeed after I had already whittled an opponant's army down to fewer than four pieces. Because I hadn't expected to win championship, and because I felt desperate to overcome the VC 2 disparity, I played all out--actually capturing mechs and sending my targe in for VC3 in the later stages of each match. Interesting thing is, I would normally sit tight after I've earned "just enough" points to beat my opponant.
This was one campaign (with eight players) where I feel proud of winning championship--especially since I played a faction I wouldn't normally support. I do love some of the storyline events, but I wish some of the campaigns were faction pure versus faction pure WITHOUT special rules or advantages for only one side.
