I've been pondering lately if there is any earthly way WizKids could one day come up with a system for customization in MW:DA. For this to happen, it would have to be these 3 things in order to work:
1) Profitable for WKs
2) Easy to customize
3) Easy to handle
I'm playing around with the idea of having a formula for creating your own units, with faction traits invovled. For example, it would cost much less points for a SSw unit to have high damage, or AP, then a SC, but it would cost much less points for a SC unit to have a 10+ speed and 3 vent than a Liao. For HL, it would cost more points for high attacks, and less points for defense and armor SE. You get the picture.
As for it being profitable for WKs, there could be randomly inserted blank dials in each booster, not all boosters would have a dial, and not all would have the right dial ('Mech, vehicle, or infantry).
For being easy to customize and handle, you simply type in the stats into the formula, alter it at your will, and copy down the stats onto the dial with a fine tipped permanent marker. The BattleMaster or venue could simply re-check your math work on the formula. Maybe limit the number of new pieces you can use per month to make it even easier.
Do you EVER see this as something WKs would do, or could convinced to do. There would be a very small amount of work on their part, simply coming up with the formula and distributing blank dials.
The only way I could see customization would be sorta what they have for MK 2.0 . They have special items that a character can have. These items have different effects and cost against your build total. These items fit into slots around the edge of the base.
I can see WK making mechs with slots in various places (torso for engine, back for armor, arms for weapons, legs for jump jets, etc.) Each location could have a limit of how expensive the item it can have or if it can only be a certain damage type (i.e. a locust can only have a primary weapon that is energy and only worth up to 20 points). The mech would basically be a hull that you customize the features for and woud not cost that much (since all the add-ons cost more). It would just be a little cumbersome to determine a Mechs stats constantly.
it'd be cool, but I think it would be better for S7 implimentation...Perhapse a "House" S7 Rule where you can design your own mech and then have everyone "Agree" on what "weight Class" it is...But then of course we'll just see An Arnis Proxie w/ 14 range, 21 DEF and Decoy...as a Heavy....so sad...
