This is the first army that I have actualy built. I have thrown pieces together randomly and played them, but this is the first time that I've actualy thought about what I was doing. So, I thought I would ask people to critique them for me. Please help me out. well here they are
Army one(300pts):
DF Blade
Merc Zahn Heavy Transport
DF Partisan Vehicle AA
DF SM1 Tank Destroyer
DF Trike Squad
DF Crow Scout Helicopter
= 296 pts.
Army two (500pts)
DF Centurion
Merc Zahn Heavy Transport
DF Partisan Vehicle AA
DF SM1 Tank Destroyerx2
DF Trike Squadx2
Gunsho Hiroshi Kato
DF Kanazuchi x2
DF Crow Scout Helicopter
DF Donar
DF Pesant Company
= about 497 pts (I don't have the Donar on me right now)
Thank you for looking at my armies :) if you would like to post alternate/ variative armies I would greatly appreciate it. I obviously play faction pure + merc (exept Wolfs Dragoons for fluf reasons)
ok. with army one I thought I would Infiltrate the trikes to base artillery, with the sm1's following close behind. I was gonna tank drop the AA vehicle, helping to extend it's range. The Crow is a harasser/anti-artillery piece, and the Blade is a fast infiltrating mech that deals a considerable punch. To sum it all up, it's an infiltrating/speed army. I hope that helps
DF (for me) is all about Infiltrate and Improved targeting. Get in deep and hit early. I love both the Blade and the Centurion as Mech!!
I would drop the Partisan and put in a DI Towed AA. If it is on your deploy line that gives you 24+" range, more that enough to be Anti-VTOL and gives you an artillery piece. Drop the Zahn and put in more Trikes infiltrate then move them around to base veh & arty. When you get the Donar definitely figure out how to put it in I find it to be a real veh/mech killer when combined with the Blade or centurion (Armor Piercing & IT).
This is the 500 pt I played in Faction War (3-0) only lost 3-4 pieces to replace from side board each round (took faction and overall)
Blade
Donar VTOL
Crow VTOL x2
DI Towed AA Arty x2
SM1 Tank Destroyer x2
Maxim Transport
Kanazuchi BA x3 (in the Maxim)
I infiltrated as far as I could, pushed the DI AA to hold thigs in the DZ by firing just short of the line. Sent the Donar & Crows down field to take out anything in the DZ and then hit from behind. the max/Kanzuchis and the Blade came in to do serious damage to anything that came out.
I don't usually have such a good day. But this setup worked great.
Be cqareful about using towed artillery with no transport. My HL Long Toms and Caden Senn would have given that army a tough time. The Long Toms and Caden would fear nothing from the TFAs (except maybe a critical hit) and quickly neutralize them and then take aim for the Blade and Maxim. Backed up with a decent infantry screen (a couple peasants and a formation of Purifiers, Cavaliers, or Hoverbikes) and a Maxim/SRM Team combo that army would likely be reduced to a Blade charge. Hit the Maxim and it breaks and Caden shoots. Charge Caden and miss, you're screwed (not that safe even if you hit). Now if the TFA had transports it could survive long enough to pose a threat to infantry and the transport, allowing you to perhaps position better and use the full force (Crows and even Donars are at a significant disadvantake against a mech with 23 def and hardened armor).
As to AA duties, the Partisan is much better than the Towed AAA. One target for 1 damage doesn't really match up to 2 targets and 2 damage each (AnP), plus the ability to maul any infantry formations unwise enough to get close. Dropped from a Maxim, that Partisan threatens just about everything except high defense mechs; swarm any of those with mechs and VTOLs.
Army 1 doesn't have enough infantry to support the Blade.
300 pt armies do not even need 'Mechs. (hint)
Army 2 looks good, but I'd get rid of one of the SM1's and add more infantry support.
I personally like to bring 3 DF Trikes to keep as my main vtol hunting formation. I have found they are better to use than the DF partisan.
For 42 points, I can have 3 units with 10" speed, plus infiltrate and a 7 attack with IT. MUCH better than a single Partisan.
