Just kind of jumped ship from Heroclix, not that I don't love the little clicker's but three different sizes of Military stuff looks better on your desk at work (besides after 6 sets I really don't have any room left for the superhero stuff
I got a whole bunch of boosters (death from above and Liao Incursion) at only about 3 bucks each at my local gamestop, but I don't have a starter, much of the differences between HC and MW seem pretty obvious but I was hoping someone could just "spell out" what seperates the two games? (besides spandex)
one thing I'm interested in his the factions of MW since as near as I can tell they have nothing to do with the team abilities in Hero clix (except house Liao) I was wndering what purpose do the factions serve?
I new Cat guy yeah I'm fellow Spirit Cat. each faction has special equipment. like SC has no Streak but makes up for it with good speed But Highlanders have streak and are slow those are some the diffenrences just examples.
well, i never played hero clix, so i may not really be able to point out exact differences, but i think you outlined the most important one: 3 different unit types. you have your mechs, your vehicles, and your infantry. each one has different traits and purposes, and works a little differently in the game (most noticably, mechs vs infantry/vehicles). mechs are all point heavy in comparison to the others, but often have high base stats (average 9/20 compared to 7-9/18-20 [vehicles] and 7/17 [infantry]), and have great mobility because they take temporary heat for pushing (instead of more permanent damage). most vehicles are rather useless, except as ground holding to form fortified positions (because of their effective ranged weapons and mow mobility). people tend to use more 'utility vehicles' like VTOLs, transports, and repair vehicles. infantry tends to be weaker, but benefits from special abilties. they cannot to attacked with special attacks (ram/charge/DFA), are not very suceptable to energy weapons (vaporizing one guy out of 20 with your pin prick accurate laser isnt going to do that much), and when they are traditional infantry (not light vehicles/turrets), they can capture targets. they are most often used as harrasers due to their uncanny abilty to occupy targets and make a nuisance of themselves.
on the note of factions, factions basically have similar traits to eachother. that's it. oh, and they can make formations (to boost efficiency, accuracy, etc.). supposedly, wizkids is going to release more factions like house liao, with different faction abilities.
You should get a starter. You get all the faction dossiers and all the stuff U need to play.
Here is a brief rundown of the factions
Dragons Fury: Japanese faction, splinter group of Kurita. Fast, lethal, but fairly low defense.
Bannson's Raiders: Bannson claims to be the robinhood of the 30th century. Criminal organization, belongs to one of the qelthiest in the sphere. Very repairable, but they dont last long.
Highlanders: Allies of the republic, I thought they used to be mercs, but I guess they went faction on us. They are scottish I believe, and are the worst faction unit wise. High defense in trade for everything else. It sounds good, but It plain sucks.
Liao: Chinese, evil, green and orange, possible alliance with Bannson's raiders. Hate republic (like everone else)
Steel Wolves: Splinter group of clan Wolf. Created through cloning. Headed by Anastasia Kerensky, who killed the former leader, Kal Radick. Hate rupublic, they get stronger as they get damaged.
Sword Sworn: Davion like splinter faction. Mean, Green, very powerful. Their heat dials suck.
Spirit Cats: Splinter faction of clan nova cat. Wizkid's favorite faction. They are super strong in every field except artillery.
Stormhammers: Lyran splinter group. Germans, long range weapons.
Republic: The main government of the explored portions of the galaxy. No one likes them. They are falling apart and are accused of being corrupt
Mercenaries: Hired guns basicaly

WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THAT THE CATS ARE THE BEST IN EVERYTHING?! we are just abesolutely average. on, so lately, we got 4 possibly really good mechs. what about other mechs for their time? the BR lego, Bart Bradshaw, DF tankdrop, DF VTOLs, Kenneth Mckendle, SS Balac, SH DI Towed, SS DI Towed AA, etc. the SC are not awesome at everything, they are generically average at everything. they have some outstanding units, well so does everyone else (with the possible exception of HL, but i really like tara bishop).
i'll stop ranting now and answer the question.
you can not get uniques in starters. you can only get uniques in the Premier Edition starter boxes and boosters. you also win unique LE units at tourneys and for participating in campaigns (although you have to send in for them).
btw, although it may seem that factions are not all that important in this game, they actually are, because the faction differences vary to the extreme. each faction must be played in different ways to attain the same ends.
Plz  Do not be fooled by the Dragon :knockedou Join a real military. Join the Capellean Confederation in its on-going struggle to liberate the citizens of the Republic from their corrupt government and their Shadow enforcer Knights. Any who welcome to the dark side of clicks gaming :p
All right, here's the lowdown on the factions, from an unbiased source:
Dragon's Fury: Led by Duchess Katana Tormark, Prefect of Prefecture III. This faction, a splinter military grouop from House Kurita and the Draconis Combine, is fighting to make "the Dragon" (House Kurita) strong again. This faction specializes in speed, accuracy and damage, though more often than not their units have glass jaws and short ranges.
Bannson's Raiders: Led by Jacob Bannson, CEO of Bannson Universal Unlimited. This faction consists of pirates, hired guns and the private security forces of BUU, and are essentially on a mad grab for power under pay of their employer. This faction's units don't last as long as the units of other factions do, but they are more often than not completely repairable.
Highlanders: Led by Countess Tara Campbell, Legate of the planet Northwind. This faction is the remnant of an older mercenary group, but is now part of Northwind's defense forces and fights to keep the idea/dream of the Republic alive. This faction specializes in defense at the expense of most other abilities.
Note: Highlander units really are in a bad situation right now. We are attempting to get WizKids to resolve said situation ASAP.
Steel Wolves: Led by Galaxy Commander Anastasia Kerensky, who killed Galaxy Commander Kal Raddick (also Prefect of Prefecture IV) to gain control. A marauding splinter group from Clan Wolf, this faction seeks nothing less than domination of the entire Inner Sphere. This faction's units are beserkers, starting with low stats that temporarily rise as they take damage. They also seem to have decent ballistic weaponry specialization.
Swordsworn: Led by Lord Governor Duke Aaron Sandovaal of Prefecture III. This faction is attempting to reclaim the power of House Davion and the Federated Suns once lost to the Republic. This faction loads it's units down with weaponry and special equipment, sacrificing speed, defense and heat dissipation (moreso towards heat dissipation.)
Spirit Cats: Led by Senator Kev Rosse of Clan Nova Cat. This group of Clan warriors are being led by mystic vision quests to seek out a planet they can call "home" for themselves, away from their current keepings in the Draconis Combine. This faction's units are somewhat more durable than others, and seem to specialize in energy weaponry.
Republic of the Sphere: Led by Exarch Damien Redburn. This government security force is under orders to eliminate any 'rebellious elements' that would undermine its authority while the HPG grid is down. This faction's units, while lacking any standout weaknessess, tend to cost more to field than usual.
Stormhammers: Led by Landgrave Jasek Kelswa-Steiner. This splinter military group from the planet Skye recklessly fights to "free" House Steiner and the Lyran Commonwealth from the grip of the Republic. Much like the Swordsworn, this faction loads it's units down with weaponry and special equipment, sacrificing speed, defense and heat dissipation (moreso towards defense.)
House Liao: Led by Chancellor Daoshen Liao of House Liao and the Capellan Confederation. This faction is lashing back at the Republic with great fanaticism, attempting to drive the Republic off worlds it took over during its own creation. This faction's units tend to be difficult to salvage, and are affected by their Faction Abilities of Awe, Fanaticism, and Ruthlessness.
Mercenaries: Honorable guns for hire. They consist of the Ronin, Hansen's Roughriders, the 21st Centauri Lancers, the Eridani Light Horse, Wolf's Dragoons, and the Kell Hounds.
Uniques come from boosters, never starters except the premier edition or an assembly line boo-boo, and LEs (similar to Uniques) come from events and/or conventions. Welcome. All the factions have their own pros and cons. There are pieces which are exceptions to the rules, but they don't change the rule as far as factional abilities.
