While I know all the DF players would like to see a non-repair vehicle for their faction I think that DF's first dedicated Repair vehicle should be an LE similar to Lisabet Wolf's scimitar.
Before you get out the flamethrower, hear me out!
I think DF should EVENTUALLY get a non repair vehicle, but it needs to be something fast that can keep up with the rest of their units, and we haven't seen one of those yet, so that's a fig for a future expansion. Meanwhile we have already seen that LEs can break the mold for SEs, having SEs not normally available to that fig (repair on a Scimitar and a Crane).
How about a DF Fox or Shandra LE with Repair? Or a Shun or Lamprey? They need to be very fast, but not necessarily very durable.
Why in the world does DF need a repair vehicle? Their units have repair markers all over the place. There are much better ways to use your points in a DF army than on a repair vehicle. I generally don't even bother with them unless I am playing Bannsons. I wouldn’t object to seeing one but I hardly think the faction is crying out for it. What DF needs is an armor piercing infantry unit and a cap 2 ground transport that doesn’t cost $30.00 on Ebay.
Like cedric said, it should break the mold, but it shouldn't continue with the light vehicle or VTOL trend. Maybe something like a sortek or, dare I say, another shmitt. DF schmitts have proven to be effective, so why don't they just stick mechanics in there with the crew (or train the crew in mechanics) so they can have an uber multi-tasking vehicle?
Marauder727:
The SC do have a repair vehicle
the green J100 from DA.
The DF "NEED" a repair vehicle not at all. Almost every unit I've checked the stats on, including the IndyMechs has only 3-4 clicks between reapir markers. While yes repairing would be nice most of the time when they've been hit in my play they get nailed TO a repair marker. Repair anyone?
The DF don't need their own RV because the Merc Rv fits the role so well. Plus it has armor piercing with a 10" weapons range plus it reapirs everything including infantry. The DF Gnome is the most repairable of all their infantry.
The DF have alot of vehicles and 'Mechs that can be repaired back out of salvage:
The ForestryMech & Mod
Spider
Centurion
Blade
Saxon APC
Shandra Scout vehicle
Bellona
Condor
Mobile HQ
Crow
Shun
Joust
Repairing a Condor out of salvage once won me a game.
I've kept my Blade alive but limping before with one as well.
I tried running a Merc RV/DF Maxim drop the other day behind my DF SM1 Tank Destroyer. It has few repair markers.
When it took a hit or was charged, I broke it away and repaired it next turn no problem. The Maxim can protect it from being attacked from behind somewhat if need be.
The Centurion is highly repairable -- good until it takes nine clicks, IIRC. I believe that their most repairable infantry unit is actually their Standard Foot, which has no repair markers. Makes it better than the Gnome, but only in this regard.
Actually, I agree with one statement in this thread. I would LOVE an armor piercing artillery unit, even if it only did one damage. Just something to be able to nail assaults on, instead of relying on tank drop or charges. That way, people wouldn't always whine about the DF tank drop or charges.
No. Not having Armor piercing artillery is just something you should have to work around. If that means you have to tank drop or charge, then so be it.
Having crappy artillery is one of the things that seperate the DF (and others) from the rest of the factions
ltrain187, I am willing to work around no AP artillery, if you will tell everyone on the boards to shut up about tank drop then. You deal with it, not us.
