SC Shockwave
SC Sun Cobra
SC Thunderbolt - Zahiba Nostra
SC Marauder II - Declan Devalis
I began thinking about all the stuff that simply does not push my buttons anymore, Stefani Ehli being one of them.
"So you want to hang out in hindering huh? Well have some 16" range guns!"
Having 16" guns blazing really puts my mind at rest. I know that artillery would get her moving too, but I am a SC player. I do not like artillery too much. Besides I like shooting stuff with a 'Mech much better.
Feh, Ehli's main strength is that she's remarkably powerful for a real bargain, and completely repairable to boot! Honestly, play Devalis or the new Nostra with a SC Arrow IV against Ehli with a pair of her own artillery (Admittedly, something not BR) and a repair vehicle or two. I've done it, and its a tough game for both players if the opponent is competant. Ehli isn't something to laugh at, not for 50ish points less than the 2 uniques, and not many more than the Shockwave (which she is most certainly better than) and Sun Cobra
The 16 range mechs are cool, but not overpowered. They each have their own specific weaknesses to keep them balanced:
Declan must heat up to do worthwhile damage for his points (pulse), Zahiba has a tricky 21 defense, the Shockwave has weak attack, and the Sun Cobra is decidedly average for its 161 points.
They're definitely not bad mechs, but they hardly break the game.
Ehli will always have a space at the game table :).
Nightmoor: What do you mean Declan has to heat up? He does not have TSM. Also, I have Ehli and like her, but never play her as I do not play BR anymore. I just like the Zeus sculpt.
Execpt Declan doesn't have a 'bad' heatdial, so that doesn't bother him too much.
I'm still trying to figure out what crack the designers were smoking when they thought that a Mech with a 23 defense, 10 attack, 16 range 4 damage pulse, decent heatdial, and enduring stats was only worth 255 points.
Floyd Glass costs 250 points... where in the hell are all those points invested?
Catalina costs 238... apparently giving her a 16' range, heavy armor, and the capabilty to do 8 damage should only cost 17 points more...
rumblebelly: she's only 10 points more than the thunderbolt, but i'd take her anyway...
nightmoor: very nice breakdown othe SC mech...i concur, balanced rather than overpowerd. i think the shockwave is too expensive, especially in light of the sun cobra (who's mobility REALLY gives it a hand)...however, i feel that declan is one of the few mechs that actually has the heat dial to support his pulse, and 4 damage is nothing to sneeze at either.
i completely underestimated the thunderbolt until i tried it out today...you REALLY do not wanna base that bad boy unless you like taking 5 clicks of damage (and since when is 10 attack poor?)
what i really like about declan? he's one of the few mechs i've seen that end up giving two smaller mechs trouble (whereas many big mechs end up losing to two little ones)...he's as complete of a mech as i've seen since janella lakewood at that point range :)
Stefani sitting in hindering terain is nothing to laugh at. The SC Marauder II does have 2 inches in range, but will still need to roll a 15 to hit Stefani. You will need to coax Stefani out of hindering, which will be tough because Stefani is 50 points less than the Marauder allowing the Stefani player to have more support than you.
Also the 16-inch range is energy, which means LOS, and is ineffective against infantry (remember that extra 50 points). Though the Marauder does have a good ballistic secondary attack.
I like the new SC mechs and look forward to using them., but I am not going to get rid of my Stefani just yet.
I was not saying that Ehli was abad 'Mech now. One would have to be a fool to not fear Stef. I am just saying, that the SC have the outstretched arm ability: where the bigger person holds the head of the smaller, rendering the smaller ineffective. I like it like that.
True, but charge did not die. BR mechs, which steph is, are goign to be more likly to pull off a charge on the 16 inch mechs without getting hit first. Granted she will drop, but if you can get a repair vehical out there, and kenny to hold off other troops, it might work. Just a thought. But yes, i agree that she won't be as effective in hindering, but you could get he out of that with arty before. NOTHING is unbeatable.....
i think he is laughing at stephie because he does not own one. i take take 10 clics of damage and basil roles up behind and drops his load"what another repair vehicle?" wham bam stephie is back to full power again. no repair markers is just sick. and i just love to see people whine when stephie gets placed on the table. "3 terrains? ok um i take a forest and a forest and oh yeah a forest"
