i'd like to try and start a little bit of a conversation thread here. with that in mind, i'll get right to the meat and bones of the topic
how do you field the entire 500pts of the Neophyte Persuit Lance?
this is a DF pure lance mind you. it's composed of Janina Lukic (Locust), J. Sterling (Ocelot), Hitoshi Sato (Packhunter), and Miguel V (Packhunter).
now, i've sat down for quite along while and studied these units quite alot. but i'm sure i missed something. with that in mind i'd like to post what i've come up with reguarding these units.
Janina Lukic - this little locust is prety nifty for her points. her only down fall that i see is after 2 click she looses all her special equipment. her up shots however are that she keeps a fantastic attack for most of her dial. i see her as being a fast baser, or even a fast harrasement mech. with a 14 movement with evade, she easily keeps up with mechs like arnis.
J. Sterling - as much as i hate to say it, Ms. Sterling is a monkey.. a DFA Monkey.. line someone up with their rear arc to her? oops..where did that come from? 6 clciks even to an assault with hardened armor is not bad. that o range pulse isn't to shabby either... she also keeps a fairly nice attack for most of her dial..
Hitosi Sato, and Miguel V - ok, here is where we get to the meat and bones of the lance. as Packhunters, these two mechs have to cover two bases instead of one like the previous two mechs in this lance. both mechs have a long range of 10 inches, both mechs keep jumpjets for a substantial ammount of their dial. and most importantly..they both have agility. in the current game environment, agility is like the holy grail. Sato has a single click of decoy, and keeps his SE's for longer than Miguel, Sato also has a better Attack value, and keeps it for slightly longer than miguel. other than that these are identical twin mechs. they make great meat and potatoes for the lance.
now, my question is... what suport units do you run with this lance? at 500Pts, there is little or no chance of playing the lance in a competive environment.. sorry.. you can't cram 500pts into 450pts. this would be strictly for fun type play, or even for something like faction wars: part two.
i was thinking, a full formation of ATV's, two maxims filled to the brim with shock troopers, a Schmitt for heavy suport, and two donars. toss in an Arrow IV for Artillery suport and crowd control... and your doing pretty good. it might also not be a bad idea to slip in a merc J100 for repair as the packhunters and ocelot don't see their first repair marker until just after they loose all their SE's. the poor locust is well S.O.O.L because she see's her first repair marker on her 3rd click. such a pity... but then, after that she can take a beating and go running back to get repaired and still have a 10 attack. unlike the other three mechs though, the locust can be repaired -out- of salvage because she only has a single repair marker. this more than makes up for her short comings SE wise.
oh, i forgot air suport... toss in a pair of DF Donars to chase things with the locust.. :) Janina will thank you for the Donars as her wingmen.
so lets see.
1 Persuit Lance - 500pts
1 DF Schmitt 94pts
2 D Maxim 31pts each
2 DF Donar 52pts each
6 DF Schocktroopers 14pts each
5 DF ATV squads 14pts each
1 Merc J100 25pts
2 Arrow IV Artillery - 49pts each
grand total: 1037pts
don't see many 1000pt games these days, wich is realy sad. i like those the most. nice real long term thinker type games...
Don't worry, man. There will probably be some 1200 pt ones ;) As for 600 pts, I think a repair vehicle and some shock troopers and a maxim to keep things bogged down/ capturing?

You should try running it in a 600 pt game with 4 DF Shock Troopers and 3 DF Trikes or ATV's @ 598pts or maybe just 7 Shock Troopers for ballistic support.
