This is only funny if you are a reader of Knights of the Dinner Table. (And if you're not, why aren't you?)
WizKids is starting to resemble Hard Eight Enterprises!
Think about it, they caught lightning in a bottle with Mage Knight, finding a new niche game that went over big as heck with the fanboy set. Then, they followed it up with two more big games, then hit the wall, big time, having a string of misses. They save their bacon by repackaging and retooling their flagship game, and by churning out new expansions for their already successful lines, but each successive expansion creates new headaches for the gamers who play them.
Also, the system of Battlemaster/Judge/Warlord/whatever is very similar to the HackMaster Players Association, complete with the politics. Their games are full of (arguably) shoddy rules that are exploited by people out to win at all costs (Brian vanHoose, are you listening?) And the games cost a bucket of cash to get into and stay competitive!
To top it off, they're possibly heading for the biggest fall yet with their new product, which is a classic gamble; will sports fans buy into Clix? I don't know, but it looks about like rolling an eight the hard way...
(Mind you, I am not really a WK basher. I think WK is ok. But the possible parallels with the infamous Hard Eight are just too good to pass up! Besides, we old gamers don't have TSR to kick around anymore.)
I have a few "Brian"s in my neck of the woods. I have to use my law degree just to weasel around the junk that they try to pull.
BTW - Magyar - I had the opportunity 2 years ago to spend a couple of weeks in Budapest. Beautiful city, and, when I had the chance to see some of the coutryside, I really enjoyed it. I hoep I get to go back soon.
Hoody Hoo! Didn't know anyone read KoDT...in my neck of the woods, most folks aren't 'readers', so I sometimes forget the rest of the world is a bit different.
