Sorry, no. MWDA is inherantly two dimensional. There is no "top" to anything. There is blocking terrain in the way of the pogs centerpoint, so it is blocked. There are other things in the game that make even less sense, so dont stress. :)
That's exactly it. There's a bit in a rather old book by Steve Jackson (and another author whom I can't currently recall) about game design where he relates how he yells "Playability!" at the other guy, who yells "Realism!" back at him.
Gotta strike a balance.
Iron Crown came out with this game, Star Strike, that was a board game with realistic vector movement and a complex design system and all that. I own it, and have never played it, but some people will really like that detail and realistic feel.
Then Iron Crown produced Silent Death, set in the same universe but using a cinematic system and rather unrealistic, but fun, rules. I played that one a fair bit, but likely, some of the Star Strike fans didn't like it.
MW is about giant combat robots. That's a hit on realism right there. Infantry move way too fast or 'mechs and vehicles move way too slow. Strike two. Strike three is the ranges, /if/ we assume game scale matches miniature scale.
But I don't care. Chess isn't to scale, either, and people play that one just fine.
