I just recently (finally!) managed to acquire Eriabee Childs, as well as a few other pieces I have sought for a while, including Allison Pelayo and a non-unique HL Donar. It just happens that next week I have a 600 point faction pure game to go to. I decided I want to put these pieces in it, so here is what I came up with.
Eriabee Childs
Allison Pelayo
Donar
Long Tom x2
Wade Davolt
Peasant Company x6
Special Forces Team
This is a fairly straightforward "beat the #### oout of the opponent" army. The Long Toms fire away, pushing whenever convenient with Wade repairing them whenever they do. Since the main fighting force of my army is energy heavy they will primarily target infantry formations and, of course, enemy artillery. Any AA vehicle will also be priority targets since I have 116 points invested in VTOLs. Once any AA and/or artillery threats are neutralized the choppers move up to snipe at mechs and vehicles while Eriabee carefully moves forward to blast the daylights out of anything she can, including any infantry formation that has managed to duck away from heavy artillery damage (or finish off any that have already been hit). The SF Team is mainly filler and will hang back with the artillery screen, but I won't hesitate to use it for a shot or capture attempt should the chance arise.
The only AA I am likely to face is a SS MHI Defense Tank, and I should be able to keep my VTOLs at NOE on the other side of some blocking terrain until that is neutralized. The same opponent is likely to be fielding Shanetta Yuen backing up another mech, either FS Burdnak or Alice Vander, plus a DI Morgan or two (he had some success last week with those, but reactive armor and 12" ranges isn't worth much vs Eriabee, Allison, and another Donar).
Another opponent will be playing either SC or SW. If SC I expect either Declan or the 16" T-bolt and a second mech, either a Shockwave or Sun Cobra (he likes those long range mechs). If he plays SW I expect an Arrow IV or two, either Inova or Sadia, and he'll probably toss in transported infantry and a heavy tank someplace if he can.
I'll have at least two other opponents, one might play SS and the other plays something different about every time. However I doubt that I'll face any more than 2 artillery pieces per game, if even that many, and most players at this venue don't use VTOLs very often (if they did I would have squeezed in Tameka Pryor somehow).
293 point mech as a "carefully moving up" unit? I believe in having those 23 hardened mechs charge up the field (Artillery being killed or salvaged of course) with the VTOL's as support. That's just my style that doesn't mean your army is bad in my opinion. I'd try to keep Eriabee, one VTOL, 2 artillery, and add 2 transports for the artillery. Whatever is left over is probably just infantry numbers (try the SRM's, still love those guys) and maybe even put the infantry in a drop if you can.
Pretty solid semi-competitive. I dont like runnings only 2 arty in 450 armies, so the idea of only 2 in 600 makes me twitch a little. Depends how much arty you expect your opponents to field, I suppose. You obviously have a better feel for your local playgroup than I do, so you'll have to be the judge of that.
looks ok but i'd replace wade and the SF team for some Highlander purifiers to make sure Eriabee isn't slowed by anything (because of their 10 speed). The SF isn't gonna do much alone, and everything's defense is too high for wade.
Man Warflail you have some weird obsession to artillery. :p I just played 450pts with no artillery and won every game in the tournament last friday. 2 of my 3 opponents were fielding at least some artillery.
This is a faction pure event, and the only person there that plays SH is me, at least when I'm not playing HL. As such I have no fear of SH Aesirs. No more than two artillery pieces are likely to be seen. I expect to face primarily mechs and vehicles, with some artillery and infantry backup. The VTOLs should have no shortage of targets and a formation of infantry will at most slow Eriabee down for a few turns while artillery and VTOLs chase around their main forces.
As to Wade, the Long Toms have lower defense values, and Wade is there for them. They will be frequently pushing and putting at least one pog on the table each turn, with two landing at least once every three turns (possibly more, depends on how active Eriabee and the choppers are). I have had some good success with wade (or a merc JI100) parked up against the backs of two Long Toms before. I am considering swapping Wade for my recently acquired J-37 though. The J-37 has reactive armor and I could squeeze in an extra peasant, but it doesn't keep it's repair for as long, and most artillery I face will be AP.
