This week one of my local venues has a "How good is your faction?" event, 600 points faction pure, no mercs.
This is what I'm working on, all Swordsworn:
Jacob Senn Blade 146
Scott Tracyk Legionnaire 133
Mjolnir 87
2x Sortek Assault Craft 58
Partisan AA vehicle 32
J37 Ordy truck 26 carrying:
2x Towed Autocannon 38
Laser Team 18
Giggins APC 26
2x Mortar Squad 32
596 points.
I could switch out Scott and the Mjolnir for Diane Jameson, and may use a second J37 instead of the Giggins. Not quite as fast, but more repair and then the first one won't be as big a target.
The Sorteks and Partisan are a formation, doing formation attacks if AA isn't needed, or moving alongside one of the mechs to add to a formation attack on a heavy unit. The Towed AC drop does the same thing, with the Laser Team leading on unarmored Mechs. The Mjolnir runs on turn one and charges artillery on turn 2, or else just goes to shoot at it if it is screened (not too common at my venue). That pics up VC3 too. Jacob runs up ahead of Scott, as he has better infighting abiliies. If things get close, the Sorteks can base and break. The Mortar Squads can fire into melees with little risk of the pog dirifting into friendlies, or will break up infantry formations (put the pog's dot between two infantry and you're hitting both with no trouble).
Just a few things, you need at least one token artillery figure in a transport just to make their artillery dance.
Second, I wouldn't bank on charging artillery second turn. Anyone serious about it will have it covered with cheap infantry by second turn if they cannot infiltrate.
The Mortar Squads ride in the Giggins. I could change that for a J37 and a Towed AA, but that thing has terrible accuracy.
A more common technique than a meat sheild around is a repair vehicle against the artillery, allowing it to push and fire and rebuild from counterbattery fire as well, FWIW.
i like it use the j-37, and get diane in there but keep scott, dump jacob, he was my marq piece and all he f****** did was crit miss, heat damage, heat heat, and in the second match, get captured on the first click by a lone liao purifier, a truly worthless mech
Went with the army as listed above, lost every round without a single kill or even salvage. Everyone else used their faction's biggest assault mech, and with them sporting 14" range multi-target weapons and me with only 12" ones and no good base and break unit (except the Mjolnir, which I foolishly got killed attacking support vehicles both times), I was utterly unprepared.
