Alright folks, here's the way I'm looking at things. I am not happy about sets being retired, but I will continue to love this game and enjoy playing it. Over the past few days I've read tons of neagtive posts falmming WK and just generally coomplaining about this change, and admittedly I've posted a couple of them myself. Now, there's nothing wrong with complaining, after all that's part of the reason these forums are set up, but after all is said and done, and after the dust settles on this issue, I'll still enjoy the game.
We've been through many changes (some of you more than me since I started playing after FFE) and we've still managed to squeeze some enjoyment out of this game. I guess I would just like to hear from some folks that are willing to try to look at this in the best possible light. I know, changes can be difficult (especially something as big as this) but I have to believe that the game isn't "over."
So I'd like to hear from anyone else that might be upset about this turn of events, but isn't giving up. Let me know that there's still some support for this game!

Well... maybe not as dramatic as all that, but you get the point.
I am a member of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society. We hold major conventions across the country for miniature wargames and have over 5,000 members. My question is, if I were to sponsor tournaments at the HMGS east coast conventions in Lancaster PA, would anyone come? We could play unrestricted, crown our own TRUE national champion, we could use entry fee money to buy LE's from EBAY as prizes. And people might find some new games which they like!
See, we don't have to let WK decide who the national champion is, we only have to allow them to decide who THEIR national champion is.
I'm not quitting, but my finances aren't what they used to be so if retirment starts anytime in the next 18 months I may be forced out of tournament play because I simply can't afford to get any units that are tournament legal.

I most certainly would. It's only about a 6 hour drive to most of PA.
I continue to play. I know quite a few people, in my area, that I'm
sure feel the same. However, as I refuse to buy the new
pieces it would require, my tournament days are OVER!
If you do decide to get something like that together, then make sure you get the word out. Many times I find the unrestricted events, and even non WK supported events are more fun anyways.
I also am not happy about the retirement of sets, but I will continue on playing, and buying the new sets as they come out. (I was going to do this anyways, so it is not a big deal.)
Everyone seems to be up in arms over this proposed change. I'm not. I think it is stimulating, and will lead to better things for the game.
Many people seem to be angry about being "lied to" But I have found nothing about this promise. I have looked, and I hvae been in this game since the beginning. Personally I think some of my older armies have seen the end because of the retirment, but it means I need to come up with new armies and strategies.
But most of this was already happening. I only use a couple of DA units right now, and I think it is like this for most people.

All I can say is more power to you, sir! I wish you the best! As for
me, I'm done buying from WK!
I said it before the chat but it's worth repeating. I do not spend $1000s every year on this game in the first place so I doubt WizKids would much care if I stopped playing/buying their game. And I enjoy it far to much just to quit out of spitefulness.
@BlackFusion, I'm sure you are upset about this whole retirement scheme but the rest of the world is not, in fact, made up of little BlackFusion clones who are obliged to agree with everything that you say.
@henry, I could probably make it over to Lancaster for a tournament depending on the date of the event.
Lastly, many other games work just fine played in a local league system (I know my local game store is hashing out the details of a Warhammer Fantasy league right now). If you are so disgusted with WizKids that you won't touch an official event with a ten foot pole, its really not that difficult to organize your own with whatever local gamers play at your venue. Make up a map, every week (or more often if you like) you make a move. If two forces meet on the same planet they fight. After some length of time count up who controls the most systems. Everyone pitches in $5 at the start (a small fraction of all that money you're not giving WizKids any more) and at the end of the campaign first place gets $25 store credit and second place and/or fellowship gets a booster. Or just play for the bragging rights that your Dragons Fury gave those Swordsworn a thrashing they won't soon forget -- adjust the details as necessary but it's not really that complicated.
As long as they keep making cool new figs I will keep buying and collecting.
Heck I still buy the Battletech ccg stuff off and on because I dig the artwork.
So if Wizkids is listening here's my vote:
Give me cool new units and I'll give you my money.
And that's a promise.
I may not be quitting either..but Im not buying any more pieces at all..
Whats the point of buying new pieces when I can just use my current ones to win me enough to build an army for their so called sanctioned events.
I aint buying something which will be phased out anyways..
