The post said that only the latest 3 sets would be valid. That means CA, LI and DFA. So DA and FFE are dead. What's broken in those sets? Maxim/Schmitt or Maxim/Marksman!

Er, you got it wrong. Base MWDA set is still around so the Schmitt ain't going anywhere for a while. It may lose its transport of choice (DF Maxim) but there are plenty of alternatives that are nearly as effective.

Besides, tankdrop is overrated anyway. All hail A4!

Here is the problem. They said the last 3 sets when they were talking about MK specifically.

the entire press release was talking about all lines in general, and MK in specific. We don't know the retirment schedule, what will be retired or anything else.

and according to draddog, and everything else I have read, we are not even talking about retiring sets until FEB 2005 AT THE EARLIEST>

As far as I'm concerned, we need to wait and see how this plays out.

Good point, Adorabilly. And like I've been saying since I first heard of this, wether this is as big as MTG type 2.0 or a complete pain in the cabana depends on the amout of unristrected tournys.

bravo adorabilly, good post, everybody needs to just chill for a while and let themselves cool down, because, the change to the game maybe inevitable, but I don't see it happening anytime within the next year.

No, we can't wait to see how this plays out. It can't be allowed. We must fight this at every turn. If we oppose it now, we can prevent it later. One of the guys in my gaming group, Terman8er, came up with a
nice house rule to nerf tank drop - when the tank deploys, it
immediately gets an order token. It can then take an action, if
desired, but has to push in order to do so. ;)

Unfortunately, WK's solution is to ban units and unit combos. Not
fix the rules that make said units and unit combos broken. :ermm:

Cant speak for everyone, but it isnt the idea of units rotating in or out that bothers me. The problem is that I simply will not be lied to or have my intelligence insulted. Period.

But they didn't lie to us, Unrestricted tournements are just as good as any other type... just they don't count for rankings, no important events like marquees, faction wars, nationals, worlds and so use the format... but it is still just as important... I mean, they told us that multiple times, so it must be true...

So that means that really, no units are banned... therefore they didn't break that explicit promise to us...

I have read a lot of neat ideas on the pro side of this. Lots of ideas in fact, and am looking forward to seeing some of them.

Unfortunatly, the ignorance of implementation by this company stifles the joy of change at every oportunity. For instance, Liao cain had the idea of the mech cooling truck, others talked about Narc beacons and incendiary ballistic rounds etcetera. Great ideas actually, but not a single idea I have seen would require anything more than an errata for an expansion to cover such a change. In no instance does a single set need to be banned to acomplish these goals. Fix the game mechanics with large issues and be creative and there is no need to ban whole sets

They may not have broken that promise, but they sure twisted it all out of shape without quite breaking the promise. They have certainly broken it in spirit, if not (quite) in fact. That's disappointing to say the least.

For MW it will take a Looooooong time - feb2005, like adorabily said. In feb 2005 we'll have 2 more expansions, which means that the expansions that go by the wayside are:
DA (base set)
FFE
DFA


Which leaves these:
LI
CA
Next expansion (Falcon's Prey)
The new Base set.

So... infact... in feb 2005 expect a major overhaul of the game - no more balac cheese (who plays that anymore, anyways?) tankdrop meganerf, no more BR lego, etcetetc. For the game it actually can turn out to be a great thing. For collection porpuses, it SUCKS.

Actually they really need to redo the entire game from scratch to fix some of these issues. It just shows taking a game then shoe horning in a few changes does not work well. Lets see how this plays out of course the game may not even last til the retirement begins....
