Heres an Army I thought might be fun to play. All SC:
Declan Devalis
Arnis Drummond
J100
SC CBA or other infantry (19 points)
I would use Arnis to harass, base arty, and charge any mech that bases declan, while declan advances up field slowly and shoots anything within rang. LMK what you think
I've thought very hard about playing the Declan/Arnis army too. I have not had the chance to as there hasn't been a SC campaigns lately and all the "carpet wars" I play tend to be higher point armies.
The only thing I would do is instead of the J-100 is put another infantry piece on the board instead of the repair truck. Arnis and Declan are hard to repair.
Maybe a Purifier as I think those are 16 points too.
that must be a house rule. i have actually thought about using it myself, but you cannot shoot or charge a mech that is in base contact with an opposing unit. would be great though!
marauderdog: actually, you can charge a mech that is in base contact with another friendly unit. that's how it's always been played at every single venue i've been to.
of course, if you can shoe me otherwise, i'd appreciate it and start playing correctly.
mashno: i've thought about such an army too, but i'm not too high on how it'll do. of course, i was playing against one of the best players i know, but he successfully captured and bypassed arnis with a formation of two Liao salamanders and a Liao Fa Shih.
even though that's a situational example, it does show that if you don't have the right support to deal with what your opponent might throw at you, then you could get kicked in the nutz in the long run. heck, i've found that even arnis and the SC sun cobra is stretching it for my playstyle...but i posted another thread about that.
EHHHHHHH! Wrong Answer! Nowhere in the updated rulebook or FAQ does it say that you can't charge an enemy unit with your mech if a friendly is in base contact with the target. that only applies to ranged combat. I have heard different things at different venues, but the rules back up Mashnovska71.
the question here was whether or not you can attack a unit which is in base contact with an opposing unit. the answer is no, you can't according to the rules. however, if you are playing with house rules then you can do whatever the heck you want!

from that statement, you make it sound like if your unit is in base contact with your opponent's unit, then you can't attack it, but i know what you mean :p
but that leaves a few huge holes that lead me to think you're misunderstanding the rules...for instance, lets say you have 3 infantry units in base contact with a mech...are they not allowed to attack in a close combat formation?
i guess this is something you could try and clarify in the rules forum...
i stand corrected. i just read the rulebook for the umpteenth time. your unit may not be in base contact with an opposing unit, but it says nothing about the other unit not being in base contact with an opposing unit. guess what tactic i'll be using more often...
