liao fanaticism clarification
I tried a search and could not find an answer to this (if it has been clarified please point me to the thread).
I haven't played Liao so I am not clear on how to apply the repair in fanaticism. I understand you can't go past a repair marker. my question is with damage applied to a formation or units close to one another. I units are damaged by Anti-Personnel or in the burst radius of an artillery strike - is the damage applied all at once? I have been told that I can apply the damage to one unit at a time and if that kills the unit then immediately apply the repair to the 8" radius then apply the damage to the next and if that kills that unit apply the repair etc....
So how does this work, is there a clarification? Is it in the FAQ?
Right now, there is no way to assign simultaneous damage, because you can assign zero damage during targetting.
There is nothing in the rules that says you must click them off (damage) simultaneously.
Rule book Quote:
"At the begin-ning of your next turn, resolve the attack by rolling 3 six-sided dice and adding the firer’s attack value. Add 4 to the dice roll if the line of fire to an artillery marker is not blocked. If the result is equal to or greater than the target value on the artillery marker, the artillery attack hits the marker’s current loca-tion. Apply damage equal to the firer’s damage value to every opposing and friendly unit within the blast radius, measured from the center of the artillery marker to the center of the affected unit. After resolving the artillery attack, remove the artillery marker."
You can only apply damage one at a time (sequentially) because you can CHOOSE to assign zero damage. Clarify by this FAQ entry - implied in:
Q: *When I target multiple units and assign damage, can I assign zero damage to a successfully hit
target?*
A: Yes, you can assign zero damage to a successfully hit target. Assigning zero damage to a target does
not damage it, though.
That's why most battlemaster likes liao, people like sonicyouth, tolin men and so on, because liao is truly powerful if played properly. Is definitely not for newbies tho, they like rots.
You can use fanaticism to protect somewhat against artillery and Anti-P (makes sense as your brothers die you get more angry).
You can use ruthlessness and do zero damage (convert to 1) against green units - charge, ram, even DFA.
And you can use their useful infiltrate and awe ability, all together they are a pretty nice faction!
Phoenix hawk. Sorry to tell you that you are wrong, but you are wrong.
From the FAQ March 15, 2004, pg 16
Quote
Q: *My opponent just eliminated five of my Liao units with one order. How many clicks of repair will any
of my friendly Liao units receive if they’re within 8” of the eliminated units?*
A: Each remaining friendly Liao unit will only receive 1 click of repair.
So from this statement in the faq, if a single order causes multiple units to be eliminated, you only get 1 click of healing for everything in the blast radius, or multiple attack range.
But it is a good idea.... too bad it doesn't work.
Sorry but that is a NO-GO Phawk. Neither Arty nor Anti-P targets multiple units so you can not decide to assign zero damage. You have to click the dials 1 at a time but Arty and Anti-P damage occurs to all units at 1 time.
Yeah...my experience is that fanaticism sounds better than it tends to work out in practice. In addition to pretty much maxing out at 1 per turn and only when an enemy chooses to allow it, most units will be on repair markers or already fully healed. It can be nice with the Targe or a large mech when an opponent kills an ATV.
By far the best faction ability for Liao is ruthlessness. It's enough to make opponents think twice about fielding any green units.
Awe is nice, but lot of the elite Liao units seem to be paying way too much for it in their point values (although there are exceptions).
Actually fanaticism does tend to work out ok, but you need to know how to work it.
ATV's and Miniguns with heavy support (fulcrums, and mechs) all in 8". You can sacrifice the ATVS and miniguns. It works reallllly well with jacyn bell (only 2 repair markers, at the front of the dial.)
Fanaticism is not limited to 1 click per turn as you stated. What the previous quote means is that if one order results in the destruction of one or more Liao units, then every surviving Liao unit within 8 inches will get 1 click of healing regardless of how many were destroyed with that one order. If an opponent were to use 2-3 diferent orders in a turn, which results in the destruction of say 1 Liao unit with each order, then every unit Liao unit within 8 inches would each get 1 click of healing for each order. So a unit could possibly heal 2-3 clicks in a turn as long as it has no repair markers along the way.
Am I correct though in that if multiple units are destroyed during one action (artillery or anti personnel) then the surrounding units only receive the one point total for that action not one for each unit killed during that action? Also that the damage is applied to all units at the same time so the units killed die all at once?
Yes, you are correct. all the units that are destroyed as a result of the same order will not get any healing. Hence, they will all be destroyed at the same time. All surviving Liao units within 8" will get one click of healing.
You can only gain the fanaticism effect if your unit is destroyed as a result of an enemy ranged or close combat order. If your units are destroyed as a result of you pushing it or your own arty, then no fanaticism is activated.
