It has come to my attention that my venue may be using Artillery with Anti-Personnel SE improperly. Does AnP apply to an artillery(pog) attack? I read something elsewhere in the forums about the only SE that works with artillery is Armor Piercing and Anti-Personnel. Going on what I was taught at the venue, AnP does nothing unless it is in direct-fire ranged combat. If we have been doing it wrong, please show me where I can find the rule myself, so I can prove it to others when they undoubtedly claim I am wrong.
read the faq under artilary, least it did last time i checked that u can't use anti-personel on, that exact question was asked in the faq, even the new rules if there made all ofical wont change that i think
AnP doesn't work with artillery. I believe this was in one of the FAQs quite some time ago...you can probably download the latest FAQ, it'll be inside as well.
From the SEC:
"ANTI-PERSONNEL (optional) This unit’s ranged combat attack affects the target unit and every infantry unit in base contact with the target, delivering this unit’s damage value to each unit hit. For this attack, only one dice roll is made and compared to each unit’s defense value."
Essentially, an artillery attack does not have a "target unit". It has a pog. You cannot be in base contact with a pog, as it represents a point in space. Since there is no target unit, Anti-personnel cannot be used.
Keep in mind, however, that you still have to declare it "off" when firing artillery. Otherwise, you may have to take a click of damage if it is single use. This is a nice way to 'lawyer' a piece to oblivion.
