The new abilites are up on the site. And boy oh boy are they overpowered.
Zellbrigen is okay. It grants a +1 to damage against Elite Units. And that Falcon unit has to target that Elite unit until its dead or salvage or becomes a passenger. Not overpowered but good.
Merciless is overpowered. Jade Falcon units making a DFA attack roll a six sided die and add that to the attack value for this attack.... the penalty...... 1 damage if you miss (unlikely) and no damage to yourself if you hit.
Welcome to the land of the DFA. Thats all were gonna see from here on out.
Enhanced Imaging gives the Falcon player a 50% chance to ignore hindering terrain.
There are two Sea Fox mechs in the set. They get other faction abilities.
Looks like most Jade Falcon mechs will be able to DFA you from 7 to 9 inches out.......
Thats pretty darn potent. Sure you can shoot at em, but your only going to get 1 chance to hit.
The LE Shrike is going to do 7 damage to you from 7 inches away. With that 11 attack he can afford to take some damage. He still has a 9 attack after taking six damage.
Looks like the only hope is to use harassers like the SC Hoverbike or ATV squads to keep basing the mech once its a DFA threat.
A successful DFA prevents you taking a free spin. It also only costs 1 heat even if you are pushed. Adding 1d6 to an already high attack value is VERY potent.
As Sir_QuidProQuo says, it may prove difficult to actually try and do it. However judicious use of terrain and careful avoidance of arcs could cause problems.
It may encourage chargers more though. What better foil for a Falcon than getting hammered by a Mjolnir or two. Now you can't DFA anything!! Or a long-drop fast infantry (HB or Miko's Purifiers).
Merciless : Hum, could be a problem but only if the opposing player forgets to bring some fast infantry along. Or average speed mechs. Or long range mechs (12+). Or if WK somehow introduced JF Mechs that were faster than any other Mech in the game, with enough defense to survive against VTOLS.
Enhanced Imaging : Huh? When did hindering become a problem? And when did paying for an ability that might be useful far less than 50% of the time become the smart thing to do?
So, in light of the new FA I can safely say, that all the JF units that we have seen are not worth their points for competitive play.
Love how they say Zellbrigen means that Falcon Warriors are going after their opponents most powerfull units.
I'l let you all decide
Elite Locust vs. Geoff and his Kodiak
Elite Sprint Scout VTOL vs. Eibie Childs and her Atlas
Elite any thing vs. Arnis Drummond or any other playble Unique/LE.
What a waiste of points not one of these 3 abilities has made Trovic, their Tank or Panther more playble or cost effective in my opinion
But what if your a nutter like me whop knows which units are regimanet just by the unit signia's.
I think WK should have a listing for the unit insignia's as well, so that players can idinetify which regimanet a units from. just because a unit is unique should stop it being effected by faction abilities.
Just look at Mavis Morgan. She sucks and yet she is a unique.
I just think WK is too lazy to add this to the uniques that are coming out in new sets. It wouldn't of taken much effort to do.
Bad form Wizkids, bad form. I love this game but am let down by little errors like this that could be be thought off.
I'm not asking that they listed the onl ones. Just the new uniques and LE's could have had their rank included like the Liao units do.
Originally posted by Deep Blue Unique rank doesn't count as Elite rank, unless both Elite and Unique ranks are both on the unit.
I think that's invader zim's point...supposedly the Falcons make it a habit of taking on the biggest & baddest thing on the field, but the way the Faction Ability is worded, a Falcon unit would preferentially take on the Elite Locust instead of Geoff Bekker, since Geoff Bekker is not an Elite unit, and that Locust is...so by following the Faction Ability, the Falcons won't go after a non-ranked Unique or LE that is much more powerful, but will go after a less powerful but 'Elite' ranked unit, when they're supposed to be going after the 'most powerful' unit. (sigh)
Trust me when you see the nightmare of a 27 defense staring at you from hindering terrain EI is going to look really good about then.
________ Toyota team europe
The highest defence in this game, I believe, is Geoff Bekker, on his prime, being shot at indirectly, from or in hindering, giving him a 28 defence. That is the only time I can think of something having a higher than 25 defence.
The highest defence in hindering is 25, all big Mechs with camo have 22 defence outside the hindering, and +3 for hindering and camo = 25 at the max.
As for the abilities, merciless makes base and break even more important for JF, IMO.
